Re: steralizing w/ big pot of water
I did until DD was onto the sippy cup (12 months). I would let the pot boil with all of the bottle parts in it for 5 minutes, turn off the stove and then let it sit probably 15 more minutes.

Re: steralizing w/ big pot of water
In the very beginning I mostly BFed but when I used bottles then I would sterilize after each use until about 3 months. Then after that I would do it like once a week. Then at 6 months I don't really do it at all.
I would boil for 7 minutes. (place the items in when it was already a full boil and then count 7 minutes).

Re: steralizing w/ big pot of water
The dishwasher "sterilizes" the bottles just as well as any dedicated "sterilizer" or pot of boiling water.
I use "sterilize" in quotes because once you take them out of the device, and the air hits them, the bottles are no longer sterile....

I boil them for 5 minutes.
I used to do it twice a week, then once, now at 9.5 months I sterilize them every few weeks.

And don't put anything in the water until it starts to boil.

Agreed, we would boil the water, then put in the parts and boil fo r5 minutes.
We also dedicated 1 pot to this so that nothing else was going in the pot but DSs bottles.
We did this every day for 9 months at least.

Re: steralizing w/ big pot of water
Most moms I know who boil bottles do it once a week. I used a sterilizer and I did it every other day in the beginning and then once or twice a week.

Re: steralizing w/ big pot of water
I just wash the nipples with hot water b/c we use latex nipples and they are not supposed to be boiled more than once (first time use) othweise they can break down too much.
I use drop ins though so that is always sterile with a new liner.
