Still having issues picking flooring.
We have carpet in our LR. Yes, it's still there. Because I can't make up my mind.
We have 2 small dogs (with nails!!!) and they go in and out of the house through the LR to the backyard.
I wanted to do a laminate because we have a concrete slab. But the tile from the kitchen wraps into the the LR and becomes the earthe of the fireplace. It's a curved wrap around. So, you really cannot install laminate and cut it to accomodate the huge wrap around curve. And even is we cut each pieces individually, there is not curved transition piece between the tile and laminate that exists on the market (that I know of!). I can't remove the tile either because that would mean ripping the whole kitchen floor and the same tile transition all the way in the hallway leading to the bedrooms.
So.... back to carpet we are.
What is a good carpet for 1 kid, 2 dogs (with nails!!!) and high traffic?
I can't spend a fortune either. Eventually I will redo ALL the floors.

Re: Still having issues picking flooring.
What about berber ( spelling?) we have that in our LR and we have 2 dogs no kids, and we have had it for over 2 years and it still looks brand new

I agree with berber. They have so many options for different colors, textures, and they are great for high traffic. I would check those out.

I don't know about berber, it has loops that the dogs nails will get stuck on and you'll have pulls everywhere. I'd stay away from berber.
Honestly, I think you're good with just a regular low-pile carpet.

That's what I was thinking too! I was posting to hear other people's experience with dogs, kids and carpet.
I see what others are saying.

Re: Still having issues picking flooring.
what about curving molding? (like a half round) we have something like that by our back door and on one side is the family room - hardwood; the other side is the living room - carpet.

Re: Still having issues picking flooring.
Can you cut the tile where it's curved to make it angled (squared) instead so you can install the laminate? We have laminate wood flooring in most of our house now and LOVE it.

That was my first thought. But the tile is not straight. It's different size tiles. So there is no straight cuting. I risk to break one of the tiles.

I never saw "curving" molding. It has to be flat/flush with the floor. We can't trip over. KWIM?

Ditto! i had berber when my favorite little girly dog was still alive and it looked horrible! i don't know why everyone suggests it. i had a light beige color, maybe that's why? my dog was black, but yes , i groomed my dog's nails and there were pulls all over the place. not a fan of berber in high traffic.
