Stony Brook Hospital ???---Spinoff to question about delivery experience

For those who delivered at SB Hospital.

I heard about the adjoining bathrooms. Someone told me that it is a pain in rhe arse because the person from the room next door might lock the door and forget she left it locked, leaving you without access to your bathroom.

Was that an issue for you? I had surgery at Stony Brook and was in the hospital for several days but it was not that kind of room. I was on a general surgery floor. Because of this past surgery, I will need a C-section if/ when I get PG (yes, I am sure of that). That means more days in the hospital. Does that also mean more frustration over the bathroom issue?

My Dr. delivers at Stony Brook and I want to stay with him.

No, I'm not PG yet, not even close.

this did happen to me once...I just called the nurse and she went into the other room to make sure the other woman was done with the bathroom, and unlocked the door....it took all of 3 min...so no big deal

Re: Stony Brook Hospital ???---Spinoff to question about delivery experience

I was lucky and only had the bathroom mate for my 1st night and I couldn't get up by myself so it didn't matter...now that I think about it I did have one on the last night but she go in her room late and she had a c-section too so she didn't need the bathroom anyway.

I guess that what I am most afraid of is that after the C-section, by the time I get myself to the bathroom, I may freak if I have to stand and wait. My surgery had a C-section style incision, so I have an idea of what walking/standing will be like in the first few days.

The hospital I was in had adjoining bathrooms, and to be honest, after delivering a baby, its not going to be the first thing you remember about your experience!!!

eta...I was in a ward with six women and babies, we had shared bathrooms. Thats just the way it is!

I just rembered the first night I had a cathiter in so I didn't have to get up to go to the bathroom (I did go to see my DD in the NICU the first night).
You would hear her if she is in the bathroom and you would see the light on under the door. I have a few friends who had their babies there too and no one said sharing a bathroom was a problem. Don't worry Chat Icon
