I think they have a birthing center just outside the hospital, if I'm not mistaken.

I used them, I love them! There is a link to my birth story in my profile. Though things did not go as planned, they were wonderful. I had 4 different midwives (5 shifts) during my long labor. I delivered at Stony Brook hospital. I don't think there is another option.

I've heard only good things about them... (although I'm going the traditional OB route). My friend used them and was very happy.
I actually like the idea that they deliver at SB. besides the bennies of having a private room (and a new wing opening in a month or 2), that hospital is a lot more open (likely thanks to the midwives' influence) to allowing moms to labor naturally. they also have a first class NICU.

Ha! I have you beat! I saw FIVE (Marie, Anne, Chris, Coreen, and Susan) of them during my long, not as planned, labor
I also have great things to say about them. They kept me happy and healthy during my whole pregnancy. I never had a problem with any of them. I was actually sad after DD was born because I wouldn't be going to their office every week.
I also delivered at Stony Brook and I think that is the only way to go.

Oh I'm so glad you started this thread! I'll be released from the RE in a few weeks and will need to figure out where I am going to go. I'm considering Stony Brook Mid Wives as well.

Re: Stony Brook Midwives--any input?
I had a wonderful drug-free birth with them. They only deliver at Stony Brook, but it is wonerful there. Due to their influence, the hospital is very supportive of natural child birth in a way that I have not seen in any other hospital on Long Island.
I'm using them again for this baby. My birth story is posted if you want to read about it.
