Stony Brook V. St. Charles
Hi everyone,
I just switched my Dr, and now I have the option to deliver at either Stony Brook or St. Charles. I was just wondering if there were any women on here who have recently delivered or know of anyone who has recently delivered at either hospital. Is one "better" than the other. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Stony Brook V. St. Charles
At Stony Brook you will have to share your bathroom with another mom....but the actual room is all yours. I think that at St. Charles the private rooms are 1st come 1st serve.
I was told by a few friends who delivered at St. Charles that they are very strict about visiting hours...even for the fathers
at Stony Brook DH stayed with me all day and night for the 1st 2 days. They looked the other way when my room was filled to capacity with visitors...and they let my mom and sister come up at any time.
now it its possible that they looked the other way for me because James was in the NICU...and they were just trying to make things easier on me...but overall I am very happy with Stony Brook...from the High Risk Floor, to labor and delivery, to maternity to the NICU

Re: Stony Brook V. St. Charles
i delievered at st charles and it wasnt a bad experience my husband was there at like 10 am and didnt leave till about 10 pm they are strict about other visitors though when they say visiting hrs are from 2-4 dont think there staying after 4 they come in and kick them out. They are really good with the babies very on top of them. Im going to be delivering there again in dec. so it wasnt a bad experience if im going back lol

I delivered at Stony Brook. No complaints at all! The labor and delivery nurses were awesome; the nurses taking care of me in my room were great; NICU took excellent care of Hayley. I would deliver there again.

I would take a tour of both and then decide.

Re: Stony Brook V. St. Charles
I am also trying to decide, I know at Stony Brook that vistors have to pay for parking and that the lot is huge and far from the hospital. So if both are good choices, I'll probably go with St. Charles.

Re: Stony Brook V. St. Charles
I delivered at Stony Brook (mind you, 8 years ago) and my major complaint with them (which seems to still be the case) is that they are WAY too lenient with visitors. I had 20 people in my room at one point, and it was just way too much. The nurses were OK.
I deliverd at St. Charles 18 months ago, and I have nothing but raves. I loved it there. Wonderful nurses, more strict visiting hours, just everything was great!!!

Re: Stony Brook V. St. Charles
My best friend delivered at Stony Brook because she was high risk-planned c-section and gestational diabetes. Her Dr said she would not have her deliver anywhere else than there. It is a university hospital and they are a Level 1 trauma center which is the best grade you can get(I think it's 1 might be 4)

Re: Stony Brook V. St. Charles
There are so many good reasons to go to Stony Brook. If everyone who posted said they were pleased with both St. Charles and Stony Brook, I think I'll choose Stony Brook- just in case, God forbid anything goes wrong, they have the better NICU.

Re: Stony Brook V. St. Charles
I like that Im going to Stony Brook because Im having twins and they have a GREAT neonatal care. I also like that Stony Brook you have your own room, at St. Charles, I heard you have to pay to have your own room.

Yes, and it isn't cheap almost $200-260. I can't remember exactly how much.

Re: Stony Brook V. St. Charles
I'm going to SB, but I am not impartial since I work there. The NICU is incredible and on the same floor of you need them (a HUGE plus when you need it), the rooms are all private, and the nursing staff is highly skilled. I already know the visiting hours rule will totally not apply to me.
I know someone that delivered at St. Charles and loved it as well.
The parking lot isn't far. There's also valet parking if you or a visitor needs it.
