Thanks for the input! I am going to stick things out and see if it gets any better or different in the next couple of weeks...

That does sound strange that a full-time teacher holds that position. I wonder if the teacher's colleagues know what that teacher's schedule is like. In my school that would definitely be a union issue for some. But if its a district you would like to work for-show your face around and get known by the people who matter. Although your days may feel like forever!

Re: Strange subbing experience PLEASE READ
I have had days where its just they wanted an extra body there for anything they can think of.
You don't get anything out of subbing but putting your face out there. It is glorified babysitting.
Once in a while, I have teachers who request me and I actually teach while I sub.
However, its usually just making sure the kids don't strangle each other and everyone is where they are suppose to be.
I am often put on hall duties and lunch duties where there are other teachers.

I honestly don't think it sounds that strange.
As the PP said, sometimes they just need another warm body to help out with the day-to-day things.
There are a few "permanent subs" in my building who handle main office duty, lunch duty, and recess duty. They make photocopies for the main office, take care of discipline filing, cover in the I.S.S. room. If necessary, they are used for "real" subbing.
The best way to get your foot in the door in any district is to sub. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and go with the flow and do what they tell you to do. Does it suck? Yes, but remember - this could be a stepping stone to getting a full-time teaching job.

mikeswife, Was there a mix up at the registry?? I'm being serious--it sounds as if you were subbing for an aide. Maybe there was a mix up since you were just put on the list???

IMO, they were having you just cover a few different people throughout the day. I teach in a HS and they do that often. Many times the subs cover one period for one teacher and one period for another teacher.
