Strep throat 2 times in 1 month

I have strep for the second time in a month. The first time I was on 1500 mg of Amoxocillan/day. Now the Dr. has me on Keflex(2 capsles in the mornind and 2 at night). I've been on it for 5 days already but today I woke up feeling terrible. Any ideas? I'm never sick usually and don't think I have ever had strep up until this point.

When I was a kid, my dr. put me on medication for 10 days and then took another culture to make sure the strep was gone. Perhaps the medicine didn't fully get rid of your strep.

Have you had your tonsils taken out? If not, perhaps you should look into that. My brother used to get strep every month. He needed to get his tonsils taken out. Since then, I don't think he has ever had strep. Feel better.

I used to get strep ALL the time. I'd get over it and a week alter I'd have it again no matter what antibiotics they gave me. Since I had my tonsils out - NO STREP!

Definitely look into it. Also, look into allergies or environmental factors that may ahve you reinfecting yourself. Once you're on antibios a few days, make sure you basically bleach or lysol everything you'v touched and changed sheets religiously

I agree with the above posters. I got strep CONSTANTLY, until I was well into my 20s. I finally had my tonsils out, and I'm strep-free for 6 years.

Definitely bring it up to your doctor, but keep in mind that some doctors are reluctant to remove tonsils now. I was told they act as a barrier for other infections, and as an adult, it will take you longer to heal. But I'd push for it; I definitely think it's worth it. Good luck, and feel better!

I had step last week and tonsillitis.. it was awful and was not responding to the first meds they gave me.

Did they check you for mono? Cause if it is viral the antibiotics are pointless.

They haven't checked for mono. But I'm going to have to call the Dr. tomorrow b/c I'm really starting to feel worse again.
This is so unlike me!

By def. strep is a bacteria, but it could be piggybacking viruses. Hope you feel better

I have strep too...i feel your pain; I'm on 1000 mg of Augmentim...I also have an ear infection too
