Stress level during pregnancy

Hi, just curious since my job sometimes involves me getting stressed (patients call to yell and complain to me). Do you know what level of stress is ok and what is bad? Thanks in advance.

Well...seeing as how I used to work with patients in a Cancer hospital (MSKCC)..I know EXACTLY what you mean. The only thing I can tell you..is NO level of stress is ok. What you can do is what I used to try and do...just breathe..and try and understand it is not you they are angry at. I found that killing them with kindness is what seemed to work and calm them down. Some people..especially the sick..think they are entitled to take out their anger on you..and it's not right...but there really isn't much you can do about it. Just try and count to 10...and remember this is only work.

Thank you so much for the advice, I will definitely try my hardest to calm down, sometimes it's hard. I get so upset because I don't want it to affect the baby at all.

I completely understand!! Trust me! I was dealing with patients who were on chemo, recently diagnosed..it was HORRIBLE! The things they used to say to me. One even went so far as to tell me I didn't understand what they were going through because I didn't have anyone in my family who died of Cancer. WELL.. BIG MISTAKE..because that is when I had to let her know (nicely of course) that my father had passed away from Cancer so therefore I DID understand. She felt bad...

I mean you shouldn't have to tell anyone your personal business..but I felt I needed to because it was a fresh wound..and I didn't appreciate her saying that.

Don't let it get to you...please!!! Sometimes it helps to just get up and take a breather. I used to also keep a stress ball at my desk...and a little punching thing...Chat Icon and it worked!

I have found drinking cold water helps when someone at work gets under my skin, though it is probably hard for you to do that.

As the other poster said, try to remember they are not really angry at you--just angry. I think most people can only yell or kvetch so long before they get it out of their system and realize they are doing something wrong.

Try your best to relax--maybe put a picture on your desk that calms you or reminds you of better things.

I was in a very stressful job when I first became PG. I was told by my dr that I would have to leave it.
