Re: String Beans
My mom does them nicely--steam them and then heat a little butter in a pan, toast some slivered almonds, toss in the green beans to coat

Re: String Beans
I always do the string bean casserole on the back of the container for French's Fried Onions. Its just 2 cans of string beans, a can of condensed cream of mushroom soup, some milk (I think), and the french's onions.
Even people who dont like veggies usually like it.

Re: String Beans
I make these string beans in the crockpot:
3 lbs of string beans cleaned with tips off
2 beefsteak tomatoes quartered 1 large onion diced
5 colves of fresh garlic chopped
3 tbls of olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
I put all of these in the crock pot and let cook until string beans are very tender...maybe like four our six hours!!!

Re: String Beans
I usually just saute them in garlic and oild and then mix pine nuts in them when they are done. Simple yet everyone loves them with the pine nuts.

We make a variation of this..just not in the crockpot.
Boil the stringbeans in water until theyre done, then drain the water, add some peeled tomatoes, a small onion, salt & pepper..just let it sautee until beans are nice and soft.

Re: String Beans
I usually just heat some oil and minced garlic in a pan. Once it gets hot add the green beans and a few pats of butter. Season with salt and pepper and mix so beans get coated. Add a container of grape tomatoes and mix to coat. Cover and cook on low for about 10-15 mins until the tomatoes start to pop.

Re: String Beans
I saute the with shallots, olive oil and some almonds!
Or (my favorite) saute in a little olive oil with salt and pepper until tender and then add in some small cubes of diced fontina cheese and let melt in. So yummy!
