Student Loan forgiveness
I know there was a thread recently about student loan forgiveness, and it was advised to contact our lenders directly.
I did just that and this is the response I got back from mine (Nelnet):
______________________________ Dear Morningcuppacoffee,
Thank you for contacting Nelnet. There are hundreds of loan forgiveness programs for which you may be eligible, such as state or military programs, programs based on your employer or religious affiliation, or those offered by service organizations. Most of these programs are not offered through branches of the federal government and would simply send funds directly to your lender on your behalf. Currently, there is only one forgiveness program sponsored and regulated by the Department of Education under the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP). The program is the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program. A recently passed law added a second forgiveness program called Loan Forgiveness for Service in Areas of National Need; however, the Department of Education needs to publish rules, regulations, and forms for the program before it can be utilized.
We’re here for you when you need us. If you have any questions, please call us at 888.486.4722, visit http://www.Nelnet.com, or connect with us at https://www.Facebook.com/Nelnet or on http://www.Twitter.com/Nelnet on Twitter.
Sincerely, Jeff L. Nelnet

Student Loan forgiveness
Thanks. I am Applying for the teacher one. And while I don't mean to sound ungrateful, it's just 5k my total student Loans for undergrad and masters total 100k. That doesn't include what I've paid out of pocket for continuing ed that I need to maintain my certs. :( I'll be paying forever.

It's frustrating.
If I had waited an extra year, I probably could've gotten my Masters paid for by my then employer.
I always tell people now who haven't started school to find out what may be covered by an employer.
And not to necessarily jump ship if a place is low paying but offers help with loans.
I was young and dumb though....

Re: Student Loan forgiveness
I'm looking into this for my husband is a public service employee. From what I've read you have to be employed and making payments for 10 years to be eligible starting from 2007 so won't be forgiven for a few more years. Plan to look into this further...

Student Loan forgiveness
Oh Aries that stinks. I a low income school but bc I teach English, which is not very necessary (apparently anyhow), I don't get too much. Every Lenny helps and I'm grateful I just can't understand why our country can't fix this. European countries seem to have a better up handle on educTion costs and health care too. In particular maternity. A girl who worked at my school had moved here from another country (I forget which) but there she would be given three years paid maternity. Granted not her full salary. It was a stipend paid by the govt for women who chose to stay home and care for their own children. How nice would that be?
Ki also should have had my masters paid for. morning up but when. I was you get I was afraid to teach in the city (hello Dangerous Minds) and so I thought I'd go to dowling, pay myself, and get a job out on the island. Lmfao. That didn't happen!
