Student Loan Forgiveness for Teachers

http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/cancelstaff.jsp?tab=repaying

I was able to have $10,000 of my student loans forgiven because I work in an area with a shortage of qualified people. Hopefully this can help someone!

ETA: I got my loan forgiveness based on what I teach not where I teach. If you are math, science, language, or early intervention you may qualify.

I started doing this in '99 and my loan was forgiven in '06 I believe. It takes 5 years to complete. They did $2,000 per year. I believe they are still doing the program.

WOW that is great!!!

However, I do think that those of us who don't teach in low-income areas should be excluded. Heck, I think I deal with lots of **** working in a relatively high-income school! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

if you are in a high need area (science, math are two I believe) it doesnt need to be a low income area.
