Stupid Daycare Girl -- Vent
DS has two very distinct facial features -- first is that he has the cutest cleft chin, and second is that he has extraordinary round cheeks. he is a big boy for his age but in terms of weight he is in the 50th percentile for his height.
So today I went to pick up my son and there is a girl that works there (she is a college student) who said to me "your son is so cute, I love him. Everytime I see him I think back to my ex-boyfriend who used to be very a chubby baby and they used to make him wear t-shirts that say 'fatty Matty'" My son's name is Matthew.
Now, I'm very self-conscious of the heriditary risks that my son has because I have weight issues of my own. I just thought it was incredibly insensitive to use the word fat even though it wasn't directly said about my son but there was the insinuation. He's only 6 months old. I've been upset about it all night. All i can say to her was "that's not nice!". And I'm kicking myself about that because I wish I would have said something more to her about feeling a little insulted. I'm probably just overly sensitive about he topic. But I wish some people would think before they open their mouth.

I think she was just trying to be nice, she did say she loves your son and thinks hes cute, I think she just brought up that "fatty matty" story because your son's name is Matthew too, not that he's going to be fat or anything.

And calling her stupid (and I know you were venting) isn't nice. She wasn't trying to be mean

I agree. I would try not to let it bother you - it doesn't sound like she said it maliciously.

i purposely called her "stupid" in the post to my point. I should have put that in quotes. Certain things are just better left unsaid. Like I said, I know it wasn't exactly directed at him but it is just one of those things I am sensitive about -- and she should probably know that I would be sensitive to it.

i know it's easy to take things hard. truthfully babies being "fat" is considered a good thing in our society. chunky babies are considered to be thriving rather than very skinny ones. people love a chunky baby and i think thats all she meant!
edited to add that i think if she were referring to an adult then it would be extremely rude
