On April 26th, 1995, the comedy film Friday was released, starring the characters Craig Jones (played by Ice Cube) and Smokey (played by Chris Tucker) as a pair of unemployed stoners who must find a way to pay a drug dealer $200 within 24 hours. In the film, a character named Felicia attempts to borrow a car and a marijuana cigarette from Smokey and Jones, causing Jones to say “Bye Felicia.” On March 11th, 2007, YouTuber HyFlyer988 uploaded a clip of the scene, gathering over 870,000 views and 290 comments in the first eight years.

It was explained to me like this, someone (an annoying person nobody really likes) is leaving but you couldn't care less, so their real name doesn't mean anything and you call them some random name like Felicia.

I have ONLY heard this reference "Bye Felicia" in the past 3/6 months. I have NOT heard it for the past 8 years.....
I guess it just recently took off again???

My officemate is Felicia and she actually said it on her cell the other day to her friend joking around. I was cracking up. The only reason I even knew about it was my bff told me it was a thing. Otherwise i'd have no clue.

When my bf I go our separate ways in the morning at penn, he yells out "bye feliciaaaaa" it's soooo embarrassing !!! And during the week we sometimes meet on the N train (he gets on 2 stops before me) he puts on this ghetto gay voice "hayyyy gurllllll!" I can't takeee it anymore!! Lol
