stupid question about changing tables and tall babies....
does anyone have a changing table with high sides like this?
This is an inexpensive changing table for mom's house... the color and price are right... it has good reviews... but look at the sides... especially where the head/feet would go.
it has 'walls'. DS is already probably 28"... the table is the average width (37.5")... so that means my baby will have to stop using it when he's roughly 33 inches, right
that's only 5" away.... DS is 4 months old and has already grown 6" since birth. the ped keeps insisting his growth WILL slow down soon, but I have yet to see it... do you think we can use it?
***so here's a related question*** for older kids who are taller than 35", where do you usually change them? for my mom's situation (not very strong), kneeling on the floor or carrying my huge baby upstairs to put him on a bed several times a day are not really options.. the matching crib DOES have a dropside railing... could she use that I'm just trying to figure out the logistics for the next 6+ months
thanks sooo much for helping me plan mom's new nursery Image Attachment(s):

Re: stupid question about changing tables and tall babies....
DS is 17 months and 33 inches. He is in the 75% for height. I think 35 inches is about 2 years old. Will your DC be in diapers then? How tall are the people in your family? Where on the growth curve does your DC fall? I would look to see when the curve says DC should get to 35 inches and think about it in those terms. HTH.

My DS is almost 2 and he is just 35 inches now.
I do think that his growth will taper off, also, don't you lift his legs up while you (your mom) changes him? I wouldn't really worry about it b/c it isn't "required" for his legs to be straightout.

Re: stupid question about changing tables and tall babies....
DS is literally off the charts... at 3 months, he was 27".... (97% is 26" at 3 months). DH is 6'3" and I'm 5'9", so it's no surprise there.
I looked up a growth chart and extrapolated it from where he was a few weeks ago until when he would reach 34" and it's roughly 13-14 months. obviously, that presumes he stays in the 110% percentile
good point that he won't be board straight while being changed... that definitely gives a tad more play
do you think he'll hit his arms or legs and hurt himself on those raised sides

Could she change him on a couch?
I'm just not a fan of changing tables. Too much crap to get in the way when they really start squirming and flipping.
DS is now taller than the contoured changing pad, but we still use it. But we have it on top of a dresser. You could always use the pad on top of anything: A dresser, a desk, the couch, a countertop, table.

I thought the raised sides were to hold the contoured changing pad. I did not think they were that much taller.

The part that goes all the way around it may just be high enough for the pad, but the high sides on the ends seem to be taller. But I never used one, so I could be full of crap!!!!!!

I hope so.... I read on the reviews that the pad that comes with the table is really too thin... so hopefully, with a real contoured pad it will be ok.....
I made the decision laate late last night to buy the changing table and the matching crib. they have good reviews, they look nice, and are super inexpensive... perfect for a nursery at Oma's house
