Subway tile or regular tile in bathroom

Those that recently redid bathroom, did you do subway tile or regular tile? Our contractor told us most people are doing white subway tile. While I love the look, we have lots of white already, white tile floor and wanted something different. I picked out a dark beige tile but are most going with a white?

Subway tile or regular tile in bathroom

We did white subway tiles with marble and black accents in our guest bathroom, but when we do our two upstairs bathrooms we won't be doing subways. Who cares what everyone else does! Do what you like (as long as it's not crazy and wont affect future resale value )!

I know...I hear you. I love the look of white subway tile but we have white outdated tile on floor and then some kind of white with gray running through tiles. All really outdated and needs to be redone anyway. It just seems too close to the white look to put white again, as much as I like the white subway.

We did white with an accent but I do like it in other colors. Pick what you like! I picked white I figured it would be easier to pick paint so we went with grey paint...

We did beveled white subway with marble accents in our master shower. I like the classic look of it.
In our latest flip house bathroom with did glass subway tile that is grey, it's a totally different look.

If you look in my albums I did cream subway and a tan subway in my master bathroom. I also did our second bathroom and did gray subway.

Re: Subway tile or regular tile in bathroom

We did white beveled subway tile in our main bathroom. I love how the light reflects off the bevels. I won't be using subway tile in my other bathroom when we renovate it.

I love dark beige tile, I'd totally go for that and do something different. White looks nice BUT I am just someone who loves color so I wouldn't pick the plain, white tile. We plan on doing dark beige/chocolate colored tile in our bathroom but not the small subway tiles, I like the look of the big rectangles in the shower area, I don't remember the exact tile dimensions though.

See I totally disagree w/ the whole 'future resale value' thing - IF you are staying in the house long - ish term.
I don't care what other people want/like/do - by the time I'm selling my house, the bathrooms will need to be remodeled again anyway - so I'm doing what I want, what I need, what I like for my home

That being said, I have white subway tile in my bathroom downstairs. Because i always to for a timeless vs trendy look - and I like the retro look of the black/white floor and wainscotting - and I'm SO peeved that it's now the 'thing' to do Chat Icon Chat Icon

Subway tile or regular tile in bathroom

We did white subway tile to the ceiling in the shower/tub and halfway up the walls in the rest of the bathroom with a tile chair rail and mosaic trim under the chair rail. Dark grey tile on the floor and painted the ceiling white and the walls green.

For me, I can update by painting a different color or changing out towels and shower curtains. I didn't need the color on the tile.

I love subway tile. So clean and classic. I am not a fan on tiles on the walls though only on tub and shower surrounds.

ETA: mnmsoinlove, your bath is so nice!

Re: Subway tile or regular tile in bathroom

We used subway tile in our master renovation. We went with a gray, wood grain tile for the flooring.
Our other bathroom has outdated white with black accent tiles too. When we redo it, I would like to go very classic. Octagon with black flooring tile, white subway tile in the shower. It will be the same color family, but will look so much better!

I am not a fan of it, so I don't care what "most people" are doing. I would pick something else.

My bathroom, my taste.

Pick what you like! We just chose a white tile for our bathroom walls but it's not subway.
