Such a sad story- The 89yo man who passed away lighting a memory candle...
Not sure if this was posted yet, but this story is just heartbreaking....
For the past 8 years since his wife passed away , this poor man walked to a Hicksville church every day and lit a candle for her...I really don't understand life sometimes

Father Gerard Gentleman, one of the priests who tried to save him, was the priest at my high school.

How he died was such a horrific tragedy. You can only hope that he is now with his beloved wife.

does anyone know churches other than this one that have real candles? my church has electric candles.

My DH and I were just saying the same thing. I can't think of any church that still has real candles.

I seriously can't deal with this story.
He couldn't just die peacefully at 89????
He lived his whole life to die so painfully????
And for his family to know he suffered so much has to be awful.
So terrible!!!!!!!

the man was 89 and he had an Accident.
Electric candles have burned down churches & killed many!!

i could be wrong but i thought it said that the flicker from the light caught fire to his clothes, so i would guess that would come from a real candle. "he didn't extinguish a stick used to light the votive and his clothing ignited near his waist."
i know electric could probably cause just as many fires.
