sudden drop in milk supply
I have always had supply issues, but kept them under control with pumping and fenugreek. Now in the last 3 weeks my milk supply is pretty much non-existent. My lactation nurses can't figure out what is wrong, and now they want to do a full panel of blood work on me.
I have read about postpartum hypothyroid and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it affecting your milk supply.
Also, if anyone has taken Reglan or Domperidone, and your experience with either one. I was trying to avoid any medications but I don't have a choice anymore. It has gotten so bad I don't even know if the meds are going to work.

Re: sudden drop in milk supply
Things I can think of that affect my milk: Could you be pregnant? Getting AF? Ovulating?
Are you under a lot of stress?
Is baby going thru a growth spurt and taking more?
Are you losing too much weight? Exercising too much? Dieting?
I hope it improves. You can try that More Milk.

agree with all of these! and also how much fenugreek are you taking? I needed to take AT LEAST 3 pills 3 times a day for it to work! ("If you dont smell like maple syrup, you are not taking enough" )
also oatmeal and LOTS and LOTS of water...when you think you are drinking a lot....drink some more!
How old is your DC...bec your milk might be regulating itself and just making what it thinks your baby needs and no extra...
when my AF returned it would always drop and then would eventually get back up after it was over!
Good luck!

That is the thing. I have gone through this list of what it could be and it is never any of these. I am not pregnant, I thought maybe AF or ovulation, but my milk supply would have returned by now if it was either of those.
He could have gone through a growth spurt, but again that would be over with.
I can't lose weight. I have not lost 1 pound since the 2 week PP, which is frustrating. I have stopped exercising out of fear that was what was causing it. I count my calories and take in about 2000-2300 calories a day.
When I used to pump I would get about 5 oz combined, now I am lucky if I get 1 oz!
This is why I am starting to think it is more of a medical problem.
The lack of weight loss and severe supply issues has me thinking thyroid. I am just so confused as to what is going on.
I wanted to make it a year, but now I am just aiming for 6 months.

Oh I smell like a freaking IHOP I take so much fenugreek! I also drink fennel tea, and mothers milk tea. I could not smell any worse.
At first I thought I was regulating, but he only nurses each side for about 2 minutes and then screams for more food. I pump right after he is done and get nothing so I know he is draining both sides.
I am just so frustrated and starting to get worried.

Re: sudden drop in milk supply
I had a GREAT supply, till my first period. My supply took a HUGE dive about 7 days before, till about 7 days after I went from pumping 5 -7 oz several times a day, to less than an ounce. Since then it has SLOWLY gone back up, but not near what it was, 1 1/2 oz- oz, at a time. This started @ about 5 1/2 months, still BFing, and after about 3 weeks, I stopped relying on my freezer stash.
I am pretty sure you will have probably have done this but check the link for Galactagogues See what you can add to your diet, there are lots of options.

Katie, first
As for the hypothyroidism, I have it and I am on Thyroxine and I have a great supply because of it.
Here were my symptoms-do you have these?
Horrible exhaustion (more than normal even with a baby) Hair loss Weight gain or sluggish weight loss (sounds like it from what you said)
I was feeling cold and sick and exhausted and my hair was coming out in handfuls. This actually happened when I was 16 weeks preggers. Turned out that my thyroid was underactive. They are keeping me on Thyroxine because of this. I heard it is not uncommon for pregnancy to trigger an underlying thyroid issue.
ETA-Hypothyroidism, according to my LC, will cause a drop in your supply. It is a very easy blood test and you can find out within a day or two. If you do, many endocrinologists will give you an emergency appointment and put you on either Thyroxine or Synthroid.

Thanks for all your input ladies!
Mich I have pretty much all the symptoms but the hair falling out. I just attribute most of it to having a new baby. But recently I have over not being able to lose any weight. And the more I am reading about it, the more I am thinking it may be the problem.
Now my issue is I am in Nashville and every place is closed down due to the flooding, so God knows when I can get in to get tested. I just hope that this is fixable. I really don't want to give up breast feeding yet. I get emotional just thinking I have to.
