Re: Suffolk county locations to buy a house
I live in Islip and love it. We looked at East Islip but it doesn't have a town center with a main street like Islip has. I can walk to Starbucks every morning. Also, when we checked online, the schools rated higher than East Islip.

Re: Suffolk county locations to buy a house
I have a townhouse for sale in Manorville
Out of your list so far all the areas look good as far as school districts. Rocky Point and Sound Beach are out pretty far from the rest of the areas. I know that during morning commuting it is faster for me in manorville to get west then Rocky Point and Sound Beach, they are very far North and traffice in the morning can be crazy over in that area. We were going to look over in that area, but it would add a half hour more to my commute from Manorville to Syosset. Even though it is west of me.

Re: Suffolk county locations to buy a house
My Dad lives in Rocky Point up in the hills by the fire station. They like it. The roads are very hilly and there are not huge lots but it is a pretty area-very "country feeling" Nice to be on the North Shore by the water but this is VERY far from everything. Almost everyone who lives there says this especially if you work in NYC or even Nassau-it is 20 minutes just to get to the LIE My best friend just had a house built in Kings Park and I used to rent there. Great little town-not a whole lot to do but the bluff is great and it is convenient to the Sagtikos and Northport and Huntington. Can get congested at 5 and over the weekend but not too bad-mostly no sidewalks. Supposed to be an excellent school district

Re: Suffolk county locations to buy a house
I've lived in Holbrook for 28 years and raised two daughters here. It's a great place to live. It's expanded recently with new businesses coming in on Main Street which makes for good shopping. School District is Sachem. Average district. The area is divided into different price neighborhoods. You have everything from super expensive to expensive to average. Depends on what you are looking for. If I had it to do all over again, I would move here in an instant.

We live in Manorville and we were looking to move to Rocky Point area but we hear the same thing, and one morning we tried it out and it was about 30 min to the LIE and it is only a couple 2 exits to where Manorville is and it add 30 min more to my normal commute. It stinks because there are a lot of cute areas of there.

It's a pretty big area you are looking at. I think all of the areas are nice - you may want to consider which is better located for your job.
