Suffolk wants to ban puppy sales at pet stores!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't BEGIN to explain the respect I have for Legislator Jon Cooper. First, he gets the first animal abuser registry in the country for Suffolk, and now this!

How? I mean puppy mills and BYB are illegal already.. if they can't sell their puppies to pet stores, they'll have a harder time selling them at all and their businesses will suffer.

Well that was dramatic. They're not just going to turn a blind eye to a puppy mill but blocking off their main way of selling puppies would be huge in the way of trying to get rid of them.
ETA: And, IMO, a pet store that sells puppy mill puppies IS the crack dealer/house in your little scenario up there. The puppy mill itself is the "kitchen" they make it in.

To my knowledge, there aren't many puppy mills in Suffolk either - it's much more common south of here.
Both are wrong - the puppy mill suppliers and the pet store sellers. We can do something about the pet store probably a lot faster than the other way around.
Puppy mill businesses are not illegal. Cruelty and neglect are.

There is a process for selling puppies in pet shops. It starts with puppy mills, the vast majority of which are not in our area of the country. The puppy mill owners do not sell the puppies directly to pet shops, they sell the puppies to Brokers. The Brokers are well formed companies that ship the puppies out to various pet shops around the country. So what we have on Long Island are pet shops selling puppies which originate from other areas of the country. Banning puppy mills on LI would not stop pet shop puppy sales.
Banning pet shop sales of puppies is brilliant, this way the Brokers simply can not solicit their puppy mill puppies in Suffolk County! Now let's see if Nassau County will follow suit!
