Suggestions for bath time?
DD is 3 1/2 months and HATE HATE HATES the bath. I tried everything and thought it would be better by now, but nope. We used to do it on the kitchen counter and then I thought maybe it's too cold near the window so I steamed up the bathroom nice and warm and made the water as warm as I could without it being too hot and still, as soon as her toes touch the water, or sometimes as we walk her naked butt toward the bathroom, she just knows and her face turns purple and the tears just flow. Her baths are only about once a week for this reason and they last about 2 minutes with DH's help. And for about 30 minutes afterwards she is still upset with me and sighs. Why does she hate it so much? Any suggestions to make it better? Her very first bath was great, I thought she loved it, but now I think it was just shock factor.

Re: Suggestions for bath time?
Maybe you can try doing a sponge bath for a while....in the bathroom, put her in her tub and steam up the room, but don't put any water into the tub. Put her into the tub wrapped in a towel, and open only the parts you are washing, one at a time. Just wash her with a washcloth with warm water and baby soap. It might be a step backward, but it may make her feel less nervous. DS was nervous in the tub when he was an infant. I think it was because he didn't like being so "open." He liked being swaddled and held all the time. Good luck-it will get better!

Have you tried going in the bath with her? You still probably need DH there to help, but maybe holding her in the tub might ease her fears alittle.

My daughter likes the water to be cooler than I expected -- just luke warm. That could help. Music in the background may also be a calming distraction.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Do you think more frequent baths will make her adjust better as well or should I keep it to once a week? I need a valium before giving this poor girl a bath!

Re: Suggestions for bath time?
We find that DS likes the bath better if he's in it as it's filling.

Oh - well Ava is a typical girl and holds a grudge!
This is her 2nd bath - keep in mind she has pasty white skin! Image Attachment(s):

I have been bathing my dd since she was 3 weeks old every night as part of her bedtime routine. We don't always really give her a bath, but every night we do the same thing. It seemed to have helped her.

Re: Suggestions for bath time?
Good suggestions from all of the above posters. If they dont' help, I'm curious, have you tried taking her in the shower with you? It's something different you could try. Maybe she's got an issue with being submerged or being apart from you. We've done it with Ellie a few times and it's awkward at first but then kind of easier than the bath tub.
