suggestions for courtyard
I'm not particularly interested in yard work, but I have a small courtyard that leads to my front door. It's overrun with weeds - including 2 that are as thick as small trees. I know I need to clear it all out, but does anyone have any low maintenance ideas of what to do with the area so it's not an eye sore?
When I moved in, there were large bushes on both sides, but it made the space WAY too cramped. Image Attachment(s):

Marble chips and some statues/water features.
Sand and make a Zen garden.
Rubber mulch. If you do two colors, you could do a cool pattern.

Re: suggestions for courtyard
I am no plant expert and trust me, I have a black thumb, but when we were getting our front professional landscaped I told them I wanted all low growing things- nothing that got too big or out of control. If you go to a nursery or garden center and tell them you are looking for low growing, low maintenance shrubs they should be able to steer you right. Also maybe some ground cover. That's the stuff that grows very low to the ground and kind of spreads out to cover a larger area. You are going to want stuff that you don't have to plant every year so go for perennials that will come back every year

You can do rocks on both sides. It will look nice, but note if you ever want to take them out, it's a PITA!
The former owners of our house had a backyard of rocks so their dog could run around and they had no lawn maintenance. We dug it all out and put down grass.

I would just get some stones/gravel. You can buy some nice pots and put one on each side and fill them with seasonal plants. Nice and easy. I wish I could do that to my whole yard lol.
