Suggestions on getting baby on a schedule needed
How do you get your newborn on a day/night schedule? I envy stephanief who had DC sleeping 10-5 @ 6 weeks old!

Re: Suggestions on getting baby on a schedule needed
I would just suggest trying to keep her up as long as you can during the day...I know it's impossible though...

Re: Suggestions on getting baby on a schedule needed
A few things I did:
1) Took DS out to my Mom's during the day........what with his grandparents & aunts & uncles holding him.....he would be awake a lot!
2)During those night time feedings, I kept the lights low, did not talk and was quiet & gentle when changing his diaper.
At 9 1/2 weeks old, DS started to sleep through the night!! He sleeps about 9pm-7am most days!

I really did luck out, my dd was and still is an angel
What I would do is during the day, keep the blinds open, TV on, music on, etc to get her used to daytime = awake time
at night, do the opposite, low lights, soft music, etc
eventually, she will get on a schedule, maybe by 5 weeks like mikayla

This is what I did as well. DD slept 9pm-6am at 5 weeks. That being said every baby is different. My DD doesn't really like to nap but will sleep 11 hours at night. Good luck.

Re: Suggestions on getting baby on a schedule needed
A big part of it is just the child(IMO). Peyton had been sleeping 8 or 9pm to 7:30-8am since she was about 11 weeks. I never let her sleep after 6pm, no matter what it takes. And I am very strict with her bedtime routine of bath, pj's, eat and bed. I put her down awake. With that said, I did the same with my 7 year old and she did not sleep through the night until she was almost 4 YEARS old!

Re: Suggestions on getting baby on a schedule needed
everything i read say it is impossible to get the baby on a schedule at this point. They are too unpredictible. But like a PP said, I too, during the night feedings, keep the lights off (tv is on) and dont talk to her. Gently change her diaper before the bottle. I think that helps

I agree, we did this as well. DC was sleeping through the night by 7 weeks

Re: Suggestions on getting baby on a schedule needed
I've given up on scheduling. DS gets a bath between 7:30 and 8:30 and nursed to sleep. He will typically sleep 6 hours, get up and nurse again. Back to sleep for 3-4 hours.
During the day is completely random. He doesn't seem to like too many naps.
BTW, he is 10 weeks.

Re: Suggestions on getting baby on a schedule needed
my dd had her days and nights confused... she would sleep forver during the day and up all night... when this started happening we tried to put her on a feeding schedule... during the day i never let her sleep longer then 3 hours..i fed her every 2.5-3 hrs... it really helped her a lot...

Re: Suggestions on getting baby on a schedule needed
My ds had his nights and days confused for a bit and we did what others suggested:
Day: lights on, tv or music on, people over, vacuumed, brought ds outside while my husband mowed the lawn, etc. I tried to keep my son awake as much as possible but it just wasn't possible. The kid likes to sleep too much.
Night: kept lights as low as possible, didn't talk to him while giving a bottle, made little eye contact, etc.
My ds kind of created his own schedule and it seems as though he is a schedule baby. If you deviate from it too much, he's not a happy camper. It just took us a little to pick up on his schedule and recognize when he needed a nap.

Re: Suggestions on getting baby on a schedule needed
Kristina wasn't put on a schedule per say.... She did it on her own.
But I did as the PP's said....
I did the norm during the day.... loud noises, bright lights... the whole kit and kaboodle.
In the evening I kept things soft and dim.
She was sleeping through the night at around 7 weeks old.

Re: Suggestions on getting baby on a schedule needed
I couldn't get DD to sleep at night until she was 10 weeks.....and I don't think it was anything I did.....I think once they are distracted enough during the day to stay awake....then they will sleep at night. When they are that tiny, if they are sleepy, there's not much you can do to keep them awake.
It will get better though...I promise.
