Re: suggestions on waking up newborn during feeding
take his clothes off
tickle under chin or on the cheek
lift him so his feet are floating in the air, very young babies don't like this bc they think they are falling and will wake up

Does he need those feedings? We had to wake for feedings for the first month. We did all those things you mentioned but you could also try taking off his clothes so he's cold. Also tapping the end of the bottle with your fingernail - that always worked for us.

Re: suggestions on waking up newborn during feeding
tickling right under the chin always sparked more sucking. a diaper change also did the trick.

Re: suggestions on waking up newborn during feeding
DD was slightly jaundice so she was extra sleepy! I would keep a damp washcloth nearby and rub her feet with it.

I would take my thumb and middle finger and stroked around his mouth...that normally would get him sucking again. Also just taking the bottle out would get him to start sucking again. I didn't breast feed for very long bu shifting would usually get him going again if he fell asleep.

With DD I would get her undressed, and use a damp washcloth on her feet/chest/head to keep her up.

definitely undressing, change his diaper...or the under the chin tickle still works for DD at 19 months old!

yeah he wakes up crying for a bottle... a couple of times he will drink 1oz & fall asleep... i try everything to get him to wake up but fail so i just put him back into his crib... but then he's up again in about an hour and half for the rest whereas he would go 3 hours in between feedings

I found pulling on his ear or rubbing behind his ear to work best.

This is what always worked best for us. And get him down to as little clothing as possible. Also the dangling feet is great at that age.

Stimulation during the feeding and a diaper change in the middle.
