Strange enough... on TYRA the other day they had the anorexic girl from REBA. She could barely tell her triumph in fear that she would give out advice on how to convince a person to become anorexic. She said she actually got her ideas from that Tracy Gold movie dealing with anorexia. I think alot of these "death like " situations, if you are in true desperation you might look and learn the best way out by watching the television, playing on the computer or listening to someone else in a vulnerable situation.
i think a lot of people get ideas from these kind of shows... sad but true
But i think having a site for information on the how too's? Is sick
I agree but ya know what became the REAL problem... everyone decided that the computer is the ultimate dictionary to ALL of lifes answers. ESPECIALLLY when it is secretive. Before computers someone might have gone for therapy instead of seeking therapy through websites etc... I think they find this cr@p because they are so vulnerable. I believe you can learn everything and anything on any topic just by "googling" it. Funny enough I was just trying to interpret an MRI using sample MRI's online. When does the insanity stop? you can diagnose yourself, you can mentally heal yourself, you can get answers and even like your posting states learn to kill yourself just by "googling it. I think alot of the problem are these computers.

Re: Suicide sites
I can tell you that if you want to find the information out it's always been out there. Computers just make it easier. - at the age of 16, I read up on anorexia bulimia in my library - and my intentions were purely to lose weight. Think of "Final Exit".
I assumed sites were out there. A few weeks ago I found one on suicide after a friend was diagnosed with ALS. I was looking up more info on it. This site gave step by step instructions on what seemed like the easiest way to do it. It went on to describe the effects of this method and how it left the body with a pinkish healthy glow, how to protect people finding you, etc.

Thats actually my point...at the age of 16 you read up on bulimia/ anorexia...you didnt have a detailed listing in the back of the book that told you the people to contact if you want to discuss more ways to do it etc... the computer like you said actually gives alot more opportunity to do more with the info.

Re: Suicide sites
Law and Order actually did 2 episodes about this. Criminal intent involved 4 teenage kids in a car that stopped on train tracks. The kids had the time that train would go by and how no one would find the car.
SVU did an episode as well where they found the person who was the "moderator"
These sites existing does not surprise me but I just wish more would be done to take them down. So much information can be found on the internet. Parents can stop their children at home by putting parental blocks on the computers but their is always internet cafe's, libraries, friends homes and even cell phones have internet access. More needs to be done to shut these websites down.

Re: Suicide sites

so i was watching Oprah a week or two ago and it was about how this girl committed suicide...
But that wasn't the worst part.
She went to a chat site where they talked about suicide (HER suicide), when they were going to do it, how they were going to do it, better more effective techniques to use, different ways to carry this out, shared their suicide notes....etc etc....Not only was this a chat site but an informational GUIDE
Even would end with a last post saying "see you on the other side"
Call me stupid, but i never even fathomed that sites like this existed...
What do you think about sites like this existing...
that totally reminds me of Law and Order:SVU episode few years ago I think... Marlee Matlin was playing the role of a deaf lab technician who was helping people to commit suicide through a website....
