summer camp
I work full time and it sucks with camp. Used to do daycare camp until she started school. Now I do YMCA, some local town camps and some through her school. I am lucky I can work with my parents. They’ll pick her up at 4pm so I don’t have to pay for the after care portions

summer camp
We do camp at our daycare. There is a town camp that is more affordable but the hours suck and it doesn’t run the whole summer.
What kills me about these $$$$$ camps is that they only run 8 weeks and they are over by 4pm. Really doesn’t help working parents for the price you pay!!!

summer camp
My friend hires a young teacher that is her nanny for the summer. It’s much cheaper than camp, and the hours work better for her work schedule.

I am with you I love how all these camps are so expensive and they are over early I feel like 4 is late more are over by 3 and then you have to pay even more for aftercare!!! My kids only go to camp and very cheap one at that because I work. I wouldn't be sending them if I didn't. Its probably cause I never went I don't get appeal.
Also what kills me you pay all this money and then after that your expected to give these camp counselors these huge tips because they don't pay them normal slalaries all this freaking money you pay and they can't pay the counselors normal salary!!

Exactly. And you have to work to afford these prices. If I wasn't working, I wouldn't be able to afford these camps! Real catch 22!

I know, my sons camp for 9 weeks is almost as much as his tuition for catholic school for the entire year. Its depressing as I fill out the forms to register him today.
I use YMCA which a lot more affordable then others and you have the option of late hours.

Re: summer camp
I was thinking about sending my kids to Long Island for a few weeks to spend time with their dad’s parents. I figured they could do a camp while there but almost had a heart attack when I saw the prices. 6k for 8 weeks??!?!?
And the “affordable” camps are 500/week???? I have three kids.
Who can afford these camps!?
Our school based camp is 125/week here in Texas. Fancier camps are MAYBE 300-week.

Re: summer camp
I love how everyone assumes you are sending your kids to camp- my little nuggets are going to the babysitter- we can no way afford 10K for 2 kids for summer camp, and the hours are so not designed for working parents.

Camp prices are ridiculous. Honestly, though, isnt everything is SO expensive around here??? Also, most people I know who send their kid's to camp have parents (the grandparents) who pay. Unfortunately, not me haha. I have two in camp this summer and I swear it's costing more than what I paid for a semester at SUNY.
That said, my stbx and I both work and I prefer camp over a sitter so it is what it is. Although we need a sitter too for after hours. Even though it's a small fortune, I know they will have an amazing Summer and it's good for them. This camp also offers busing and includes all food so makes my life a little easier and makes the price a little easier to stomach. Next year I plan to open up a "camp fund" account and contribute monthly so I can save for it better. I am also asking for money for camp for all birthday and Christmas presents.

just wondering if you don't mind telling about how much are you paying for a babysitter? I feel baby sitter are more money then some of the cheap camps. I found camp that is cheap is it the best one out there no but it will do. I look at its no worse then sending them to a babysitter.
My friend offered but what she wanted to charge me it was more then what I would have paid with camp and it wasn't like my DD was going to have one on one time she has her own kids. I didn't do it cause I wasn't willing to pay more than the camp price and have it be off the books where I can claim or use my FSA money on.

My sitter only charges me $50 a day, I am truly grateful for her- she is a Godsend

That's still $250 a week, no? Is it at your house or hers? Do you have to pay for activities on top of that?
We live in the city, my son goes to UAU camp and its $650 for 7/5 to 8/10. I love it.
