sunroom feedback
We are seriously considering adding a sunroom to the back of our house. We are not looking to have heating and AC, just a screened in area off the den.
What are the pros and cons for people that have had them? Will my taxes go up a lot if we are talking about 10x15 room?
Any companies that are good/bad?
There are so many nights we would love to eat outside but either the weather is rainy or there are so many bugs, I know we would use it all the time spring-fall.

Re: sunroom feedback
I think if you like it and will use it, you should do it.
You will definitely be taxed for an addition -- whether you get the requisite permits and C/Os are not. Any visible improvements from the outside will be taxed.
But I don't think it will be a huge increase. To give you an idea, I just took a listing next door to my parents' house in Seaford. My parents and the neighbor have identical houses (split levels) on same sized property. My parents have a sunroom extension off the back (similar to the size you are considering, no heat), and their taxes are about $650-700 higher than the neighbor who doesn't have the extension. So it shouldn't be thousands of dollars difference!
It's almost always an advantage to increase your living space. And a lot of buyers like the idea of outside dining/entertaining.
The only con I can think of is if you have a small yard and extending will take up even more yard space. That could be a negative for resale.

sunroom feedback
Thank you Christine for the reply! I also have a spilt level home and it would be off my den. I know we would use it all the time and for parties, etc.
I looked at a split once that had a sunroom off the den and I fell in love with that house, it was too far out of my budget at the time though.
My side yard is actually bigger than straight out my back. Right now we just have a slab with our patio, bbq that we can move anyway.
