Re: Sunscreen on an infant

My dr. said to keep her in the shade, but if there is any risk that she may be in the sun, its OK to put sunscreen on her.
They say not use it until 6 months because babies under 6 months really shouldn't be on the sun.
I put it on because while I kept her under her shade in her stroller, if the sun hit at an angle that hit her left leg for example, I'd want that left leg covered.
I use California Baby or Blue Lizard Baby. Both have no chemicals, blue lizard is much cheaper.

My Dr. Never said anything about it. I have been using it (sparingly) since 4 months. I use Water Babies Pure and Simple.

At her 2 month check up, my ped told me it was okay to use it. I haven't yet though and don't ever really keep her out in the sun.

Re: Sunscreen on an infant

My Dr said it was fine. he said that better some sunscreen, which will wash off in the bath, then a sunburn. I think it's unrealistic to think you can keep a baby completely out of the sun in the summer. But this is another one of those things that I just tend to be more lax about.

My ped said if you can't keep the baby out of the sun, then it is ok to use sunscreen. I bought california baby, blue lizard baby, supergoop and badger. All are natural and contain no chemicals.

My Dr too said please put sunscreen on ur infant. He saw a 2mth old that was in the shade w/ a sun burn, cause of the refection of the water.

My ped said not until 6 mths b/c babies absorb a lot through their skin and it's no good.

I was told that 6 months was the old recommendation now they say you should use it on the babies whenevr they are going to be outside as the effects of a burn are worse than the risk of the sunscreen. Its a risk vs. benefits things.

That being said, my DD has always had very sensitive skin and the only one that works for her is the "Baby Lizard" one from blue lizard. I would definately get one with zinc oxide as it is barrier proptection.

When we went to DW in March, DS was almost 4 months old. I asked the pedi about sunblock, he said definitely use it. Just couldn't put it on his hands or feet or near his eyes or mouth. We use Coppertone for babies. SPF 70....

Re: Sunscreen on an infant

DD is 3 months. I put sunscreen on her Sunday - we had no choice, there was no shade because she wanted to be held and out of the infant carrier, and I'd rather the small risk over the guarantee of exposure to sun. I don't plan on doing it again, I hope I don't have to, but I will if it's necessary as this time was.

Re: Sunscreen on an infant

My ped's suggestion is no sunblock before 6 months. Than being said, I use California Baby, which is supposedly one of the best out there with little bad ingredients. Chat Icon HTH!

Re: Sunscreen on an infant

I used some on DD yesterday, she is almost 12 weeks, I didn't ask my ped, just made a judgement call.....it was that or sunburn so I opted for some sunscreen. She had no reaction to it
