Support Groups

Does anyone know of any support groups near the massapequa area for parents that have special needs children? Sometimes I feel like something like that would really help me!

Re: Support Groups

I know MKS has support groups but they are in Plainview

Did you check schools like Just Kids in Linderhurst or Little Village?

They may have support groups too open to outsiders.

i know its hard for you because you work but they offer support groups during the week at school....

i can see if they can offer night classes when school starts...

Re: Support Groups

Some support groups are on Saturdays. Especially with agencies vs. schools

Re: Support Groups

I actually found a site on google called Meetup.com
It sounds like they have meetings every so often to talk about issues parents are having, etc. Has anyone ever gone on that site?
Andrea, I remember asking last year about anything at night. They said they used to do it at night but didnt get big turn outs so they stoped. maybe this year they will offer something at night.

Re: Support Groups

Lucy Miller's Sensory Processing Foundation runs support groups throughout the country. I used to correspond quite often with the former leader of the Nassau County one. She was a great support me, at the time, I was unable to make a meeting. However, I may try this year. Nassau County is at HASC.

Re: Support Groups

I am about 15-20 minutes from you so it's totally doable.

I offered to host a couple of years ago but that did not really go anywhere.

Re: Support Groups

I'm in Setauket.

I'm a stay at home mom so any day is fine or after 8pm. During the day on the weekends are fine too.
