Re: Surrond Sound for DH

if this is something your dh is "into" and picky about, I would hold off...or maybe present him with a homemade "gift certificate"

this is something my dh is really into and I would be too afraid I'd buy the wrong one.

I would agree. Guys love this stuff and he probably wants to pick one out himself. We just got one but got the speakers seperate and the recever and stuff seperate. My DH was crazy about this stuff.

see, according to a lot of "sound junkies" the most unbelievable thing about Bose is their marketing dept

apparently you can get better sound cheaper elsewhere.

I don't know b/c I can't really tell Chat Icon but this is what the research has shown my husband. Chat Icon

I'm with Ophelia.

Bose doesn't have bad sound, but there are definitely better systems & speakers out there at more reasonable prices. I think the initial appeal for most was that they offered decent sounding speakers/systems for those who were/are tight on space.

We have this surrond sound...its AMAZING!! My DH is picky about electronics and he picked this out. Obviously not the quality of BOSE, but quaility is awesome for the price!

Re: Surrond Sound for DH

DW wouldn't even dream of trying to buy electronics for me... Chat Icon She knows me too well....

Bose is good, but not the best.

Does he want wireless rear speakers? No rear speakers and just front ones that emulate rear speakers? Ceiling mount/wall mount/floor mount? Combined receiver/dvd player (Personally, I don't like the combined dvd player/receiver). How many devices are going to be attached to it? (TV, DVD, CD, VCR, Blu-ray, Wii, etc...) What type of connections do they all have?

Holy Chat Icon I have some homework to do. Usually, I woudn't think to get DH electronics because he is the expert.

I am thinking he'd like wireless. Nothing that we have to mount b/c we live in a co-op. We'd connect the TV, Blue-ray, Wii. Um..what do you mean by what connections do they have? Chat Icon

If I was you (and this is along the lines of what my DW does), is tell DH that you are taking him to get a surround sound system, but since you want to make sure he gets the exact one (or close) he wants, you need him to pick it out.

By connections, some have fiber optic connectors, coax, RCA, component video, composite video, memory stick slots, etc...

That is not something I would be willing to chance with my DH. It literally took him 3 yrs to complete his SS. From speakers, rec, stands, inputs. BLAH BLAH. He is VERY picky and particular with ANYTHING like that. I mean it took him 2 yrs just top pick a damn computer. Good Luck to you.
