swaddling and rolling over/bellly sleeping
so, DS still likes to be swaddled at night... but at 3 months old now, i'm afraid that he is going to roll over onto his belly and not have the use of his arms to help position himself.
anyone else have similar concerns? what did/will you do?

Re: swaddling and rolling over/bellly sleeping
My DH doesn't do it anymore, but when he did roll as a newborn I used to wedge a couple of receiving blankets on either side of him (rolled up).

Re: swaddling and rolling over/bellly sleeping
My youngest DD was swaddled to just about 6 months old. She never rolled over in her sleep(she did roll while awake while she was still swaddled at night), she would just slam her legs up and down. I think it would be hard for them to get the right momentum to roll over swaddled tight. But i could be wrong.
If you are uncomfy, you could start to wean the swaddle to a sleep sack or just swaddle his legs.

ETA: I was concerned about the same thing once she started rolling during the day. But she couldn't do it at night. My doc said you can safely swaddle to 5-6 months if you want. We weaned her from the swaddle to the sleep sac and she took it very well. only 2-3 days of some fussing for a couple hours when we put her to bed.

Re: swaddling and rolling over/bellly sleeping
Oh my goodness! THe only way we used to get DS to sleep was to swaddle the life out of him at night so that he didn't punch himself awake!!!
Then, at about 3 months he started rolling over onto his tummy and DH found him face down one morning. Needless to say, we panicked (because we didn't want him suffocating AND we were afraid we would never sleep again if he wasn't swaddled!!!)
SO, the next night we put him in the Halo sleep sak and he has been fine! He sleeps well. We put him on his back and he always winds up on his tummy.
I would recommend stopping swaddling when DC turns over at night, but you could keep swaddling if DC is not turning over yet! Good luck!

How about you swaddle him with his arms out? Or use the SleepSaks. I love those things.

I am pretty sure that once they roll over, they shouldn't be swaddled anymore... they could get caught in the blanket.

Has he rolled onto his belly yet?
DS rolled a few times around 2 1/2-3 months -- and then stopped until around 5 months.

he rolled over once at about 8 weeks, but hasn't done it since. i wasn't worried that first time because we weren't swaddling him then. but now i'm getting nervous...
