sweet sausage
ok so I'm feeling like some meatballs and sausage with my pasta tonight. I know how to make the sauce and meatballs but I never made sausage. I bought a package of sweet sausage. Do I boil them? fry them? bake them? etc before adding them to the sauce to cook for a bit...
Thanks!

Re: sweet sausage
I either grill them or put them (whole) in an oven safe casserole with a water coming about halfway up. Bake them at 375 - turning once or twice - until golden outside and cooked completely through.

Re: sweet sausage
I brown them in a pan (no need to cook them all the way through if you're putting them in the sauce) and then put them in the simmering sauce to finish cooking. Make sure to poke the sausage with a few holes with a knife before browning them to let the fat run out.

Re: sweet sausage
I bake mine at 375 for about 40 minutes. The outsides get so nice and crisp.

This is what I do as well.

Re: sweet sausage
I brown them in the pot I am going to make the sauce in. Drain the fat. This way I have all the good bits on the bottom of the pan that make it into the sauce. Plus the higher pan helps with the splatter of oil when browning.

Re: sweet sausage
i just poke them a few times with a fork and broil them until brown on all sides. I add about three to my onions and garlic for a minute or two before putting in the tomatos
