Swing & Bouncy Seats-- edited with pic
If you have one-- do you need the other?? Well, sorta.
I ask this question because we got a tricked out swing-- the Graco Sweet Peace, and we are registered for a bouncy seat from PBK which is more like furniture-- as opposed to an "activity seat" for the baby.
I like the idea of having a seat to put the baby down next to us in the living room-- and the swing will be in the living room as well. And I LOVE that the seat from PBK looks like an actual piece of furniture and is not all "babied out".
I guess I am just stressing that the bouncy seat is more form than function.
Do I need a bouncy seat with a little thingy hanging over it to entertain baby, when my swing with loads of features is 5 feet away???
ETA-- This is the one we are registered for. Do you think it's a waste? I love it so much-- but, I guess I would rather have something that will soothe the baby.

Re: Swing & Bouncy Seats
we have both. We've already set up the swing (per friend's recommendations). The bouncy seat we'll also try. We'll see which was baby dodge likes.

i'm not sure if you need both or not (i have the same question) but a friend recommended that if you're getting a bouncy seat to definitely get one with vibration... just thought i'd put it out there (btw i LOVE your seat!).

Re: Swing & Bouncy Seats-- edited with pic
DD liked both her swing and her bouncy when she was itty bitty. The swing she would sleep in, the bouncy she would hang out in. We have a Fisher Price bouncy....
The vibration from the bouncy helped to soothe her. The music and hanging toys kept her entertained. Plus, it was small and light....so if we were going to someone else's house it was very easy to toss it in the car and take it with us.
My honest opinion of the bouncy in your picture.....looks nice, wouldn't have done the trick at least for my DD.

The seat that you posted - I don't think my son would have lasted 5 minutes in to be honest. At that age - you want whatever can keep their attention and keep them occupied for a little bit.
Some kids love the swing - some love the bouncy - some hate both. You just don't know until you bring them home. That's why I had one of everything - I figured there had to be something he would like

I have both and use both everyday. She loves her bouncy seat and it has these bears that hang above it that she laughs at and plays with. Her swing I use for naps. HTH

I have both. DS loves the FP Rainforest bouncy seat. Putting him in that is the only way I can shower. He really likes the light and music. He likes the swing too, but not as much as the bouncy seat.

Re: Swing & Bouncy Seats-- edited with pic
I registered for the FP Rainforest bouncer. It got good reviews in my baby bargain book and hear rave reviews from parents. I don't like the design at all!! I wanted something that didn't scream baby. Then I thought about how I will probably not care when the baby is here. As long as it entertains the baby.
So, with that said, I would say to buy a bouncer that will keep the baby happy. You can always put it away when company comes.

My daughter hated the swing, we used it 3x and that was it. She absolutely loved her bouncy seat, it was a total lifesaver. I wish I could still use it for her.

I agree with everything Diana said.
I don't think that seat is actually very functional IRL

Re: Swing & Bouncy Seats-- edited with pic
I was anti things that screamed baby, but after talking to some new moms (family and friends), the more tricked out the swing or bouncy, the better. So, I did get a very pastel bouncy with toys hanging, vibration, music, etc. We have yet to get the swing.

Re: Swing & Bouncy Seats-- edited with pic
My son loved the bouncy seat and loved playing with the toys. It really helped his hand eye coordination and his reflexes too! I also have the Graco Sweetpeace and it has a totally different function than the bouncy. Go with your instinct but I definitely needed both and the toys were great for my son.

Re: Swing & Bouncy Seats-- edited with pic
I had the same question when I registered, but my girlfriend how has kids already said she used both all the time. I guess we truly won't find out what our lil ones really like until they're here.

Re: Swing & Bouncy Seats-- edited with pic
My DD would use both. I use the bouncy seat in our room and bathroom a lot when I would shower, get dressed, make our bed, etc. Its nice to be able to move it around the house.
Also, while the PBK seat is nice, my DD would never have stayed in it. She likes to look at toys and (once she got bigger) pulls at the toys and plays at them. I think you need a seat with some activities on it.

Re: Swing & Bouncy Seats-- edited with pic
I think the bouncy seat is way more functional than a swing, depending on your baby's preferences and temperment. The bouncy is really convenient for bringing all over the house so your baby can chill next to you while you do chores (if he/she so obliges - mine never did!).
Many babies don't even like the swing however - for us, it turned out to be a saving grace because my daughter ended up loving it and slept in it for 6 months straight. But, many others have no tolerance for it.
I would just keep the bouncy seat - and when baby comes, bring him/her to a friend's house where there is a swing and test it out. If your baby seems to enjoy it, maybe buy one then...
