Switching OB's during pregnancy?

Has anyone done this? Is it a pain? Should I meet with the OB before I decide to switch?

I switched OB's as soon as I found out I was pregnant because of a bad experience my friend had with my old OB I did not feel comfortable going to them anymore.

I met with my new OB ( through a recommendation) at my first appointment and liked him immediately so besides extra paperwork , it wasn't that big of a deal to switch for me.

I switched with DD #1. But I had reasons (possible complications that could require surgery so it was suggested by my OB that I switch to deliver at Columbia over LIJ).

Honestly it was a smooth transition. I would meet with the OB first and make sure you like him/her b.c you wouldn't want to switch and then hate them. Ask the new OB's office how they want to handle the records (as in you fill out a record request thru them or get them yourself). You might have a charge for them but if you are unhappy it is much better that you like your OB than stay where you are uncomfortable.

I switched OBs after my first trimester. I got a recommendation from friends for a new OB and I met with him for a consult before I switched.

I switched 3 times! lol

The first Dr. was a bitc* so I looked for a new Dr. found a great one who I totally clicked with, then at 30 weeks pregnant she tells me she won't be delivering babies in 2009 anymore due to high insurance premiums....(great huh) She recommended me to her colleague who ended up delivering me.
It all turned ou well at the end. He was a very good surgeon and I was happy with him (even though he has the personality of a door knob) lol

If you are not happy with your current OB, I would switch bc during pregnancy you see them enough times.

I switched OB's right before getting pregnant & I am so happy I did. I am thrilled with the practice I am at.

I switched at 16 weeks and just met with the new OB yesterday. This is the best decision that I have made thus far in my pregnancy! I feel so relieved!!

I switched at 24 weeks and it was the BEST thing ever... .

If I would have not switched I would have not been comfortable or enjoyed the remainder of the pregnancy....

I switched when I was 10 weeks along with dd due to my "old" OB and their laid back, wait and see attitude about a blood clotting disorder that I have

I was not comfortable not doing anything so I switched doctors and I am more than happy with the new practice

I switched once we found out the boys were multiples.....It was a little bit of a pain only because I had gotten comfortable with the one practice and felt like they had a history with me ...In the end I am SO happy I changed...I recommend going for a "test" appointment before fully changing Dr's. You could see 10 Dr;s before finding the right fit.....Good Luck!

I switched at about 9 weeks. It was definitely worth it and I didn't find it inconvenient.

I will be switching at 30 weeks because I'm moving. Its not a big deal -- a little paperwork. They see you so much towards the end that I dont think I'll feel like I dont even know my OB.

I plan on switching after my 20wk appt and level II to someone closer to home who delivers closer to home.

I just switched! I am so happy I did! I switched at 19 weeks! I had to wait 10 weeks to get the doctor I wanted...and Im so glad I did...shes amazing. She did more for me in one appointment than the other doctors did for me in 7 appointments. Shes a blessing!

I switched after the first appt. that confirmed that I was pregnant because I wasn't crazy about the hospital they were affiliated with. I felt bad so I told them that I was moving and had to switch docs. I would def. meet with the new doc. just to make sure before you switch.

I switched around 15 weeks because I had a minor complication and did not like the way my OB handled it. It was a smooth transition and I have no regrets.

I had to because I moved from Suffolk to Nassau, it wasn't really a pain. I really like my new obgyn.

I switched upon getting preg with #2. My old dr. had no appts for two months and was hard to get into anyway.

Thankfully my new dr is great and I am much happier with the office.

I don't think its too uncommon, try to get as many recs as you can

I don't think it's a big deal to do so if you had a normal pregnancy. Just ask your current doctor for a copy of your records and make sure you make a copy for yourself in case you visit more than one practice before deciding on your final obgyn.

im switching since i had a bad experience at my first pregnancy appointment...and i've been a patient for over 5 years!

I actually switched twice during my pregnancy with Caden...

The first time was b/c my OB and I had different opinions on whether or not I should have an amnio or not...The second time was beyond my control. My OB's office had lost their delivering doctors when I was 32 weeks....I was forced to find another doctor..

All in all...I was very happy with how things worked out..

I switched at 12 weeks. I was SO happy that I changed! You want to be comfortable and happy with who is going to deliver your baby!

i switched at 32 weeks with dd after my ob just didn't seem like a good fit anymore and with the help of the nurse who taught the child brith class....(I asked her opinion about the situation) and found a better match for me....my old ob made me cry and as dh descirbed it, it was like a trian wreck whenevr i tried to talk to her....my new ob is fabulous....and i was so happy in the end....my lesson learned, its not worth it, if you are at all unhappy switch...preg should be wodnerful not a time you are made to be unhappy!
