Swtiching from center based to home based services???

I'm not sure what to do.

DS goes to nursery school from 9-11:30 T, TH & Fri.

He gets speech and OT M & W from 2-3 (we have to cart my 17 mo. old along) and speech only on T & TH from 2-2:30 (fortunately my mother takes him and my dad stays home with my 17 mo. old).

DS has been having some emotional/behavioral issues stemming from his speech delay, etc. He is not entitled to a preschool program...both CPSE and the Dev. Ped. want him to stay in his own, "typical" nursery school. Now they are talking about adding maybe another day of speech, a social skills class and maybe behavioral training Chat Icon I know this will only help DS but I am stretched. DH works all odd hours. My parents watch my kids 2 days a week, I can't ask them to do more, they have a life too.

I dont know if I should switch to home based services and only bring him to the center for the social skills class. It is a stretch brining my 17 mo. old for the 1 hour. It's not fair for him to have to sit there either in the waiting room for now more days and a longer period of time.

I am grateful for all the services they are giving him but honestly dont know how to fit them all in Chat Icon

I feel for you !!!! It's so hard !Chat Icon Chat Icon

But I am a big believer in doing what's best for the child within the family (if that makes sense). Whatever makes the entire family more at ease should be the "least restrictive" environment. I am a big believer in home services especially when there are other siblings affected by having to "wait" around.

Not sure how old your child is but if he is language delayed the more he is around a "social" environment, the more he may feel alienated and frustrated. Imagine living in a foreign country trying to complete tasks where the directions were in that language. You would be so frustrated and emotionally upset. Personally, I think as a society we are under this belief that preschool is something that all kids are ready for. And what's even more ironic, is that if your child has a "speech delay" it's even more reason to push them into a program...

Trust your gut, trust what you feel will make your entire family at ease. Don't concentrate on what some physician or definitely what some school board feels is best.

Make the switch to homecare. It will be fine. You shouldn't have to go to a clinic everyday.
