Spinoff to home day care... center-based daycare Qs.
What questions should I be asking?
I'm so nervous now about taking Loey to daycare with the whole choking issue. I'm obviously going to ask if they are certified for infant CPR...
what other general questions do I need to ask?
and what would you ask related to the choking things? I'm so nervous about leaving my little baby because I'm terrified he will start choking when I'm not there!

Re: Spinoff to home day care... center-based daycare Qs.
DS is the same as your DS. My daycare knows him well and they work great with him.
BTW... I only send him with babyfood that's not thick or yogurt
Things to ask: are teachers required to take CPR class feeding schedule is anyone licensed to give meds how to bring in the milk? some won't mix formula. Mine won't. check the children to teacher ratio how many assistants or floaters fire safety for babies
look around the room. ask about changing diapers. Do they wear gloves, put down covers between each changing is there a curriculm they follow do they do music, story time, art, etc make sure that outlets are covered and corners are protected all cleaning supplies and cabinets, refrigerator should be kept locked Are there highchairs (for young ones I don't like the table with the seats) How they clean toys, etc how do they handle a sick child? discuss deposit and what it includes. If you cancel what is the cost? are there cameras in the rooms (there are, but only for the director to see) do they take them outside for fresh air signing them in and out
Hmm... there's so much more, but FM me if you want. I worked at a daycare and knew what I was looking for. I love where Mason goes. I just didn't like that they had hardwood floors all over and found it's much cleaner. They mop every night and the area rugs and mats gets washed down all the time.
all NY licensed schools are listed on this site http://it.ocfs.ny.gov/ccfs_facilitysearch//Default.aspx

Erica said it all..(I didn't read it all though LOL)
But john doesn't get table food there yet except puffs. They only offer the table foods for old kids. It totally depends on the center.. but you feed him what you want..not what they want.. KWIM?

My daycare wears gloves to change them and feed them. They also wash the babies hand after every diaper change which MUST be every two hours.. if there is a rash it's every hour.
Do they give you and "infant gram" at the end of the day showing you what he did all day? Do they work with his schedule or is there a class nap time?

Good questions too! In the infant classrooms they nap in cribs and they're not shared. Not allowed. They work with the baby's sched for naps and food. I think in the toddler is when it's more sched, but each place may be different
also ask when the tuition goes down. I think it's 18 - 19 months for us when they nap in cots and no more cribs
where do they eat?

I actually didn't ask too many questions. When I went to check it out, they told me pretty much everything I needed to know! Plus I found it was more helpful just to walk around and pay attention... that gave me a great feel for the place
