Synthroid and HPTs
Do any of you know if there are any medications that would cause a false negative on your HPT? I know of a woman who swears she was only on Synthroid and with all four of her children the HPT came back with a BFN but the blood confirmed a BFP.
Can anyone confirm this .....or if you know of any other medications which would cause a false negative?
On a different note, I have read somewhere that some OPKs will not have a reading if you have thyroid issues. So I thought I would ask about the HPTs.
TIA

Re: False Negative HPTs
I dont think that would affect anything. I am currently on Synthroid and am tracking my ovulation by two different methods. So far the results have been accurate.
Hope this helps.

Re: False Negative HPTs
Because the hcg has to go through the kidneys (thyroid disease can sometimes relate to kidney issues). ....for it to show on a hpt...some women don't get bfps on hpts. However, it's usually rare nowadays because hpts can pick up as little has 7 miu's of hcg.
Synthroid itself wouldn't be the problem.

Re: False Negative HPTs
Thanks Girls!
Red Star......thanks for the Info!!
I also know that when you start taking Synthroid it delays menstruation. FYI, I am CD 70!!!! I went in last Thursday for a blood test and I guess I will know something soon! Hopefully, Today!! I am getting frustrated because I left 2 messages already!!! ARghhh!!! I took my last HPT last Monday. I am hoping that I had a delayed ovulation. I just started to TTC again (we took a break) and I haven't bought any OPKs yet.
Of course, I am hoping for a BFP but at the same time, if I am not, could AF please visit so that I could get my HSG done already!!!

Re: Synthroid and HPTs
I am on synthroid. I had my thyroid removed a few years ago. Before my BFP I took 125mcg per day and now that I am PG I take 150mcg per day.
Before I became PG, my periods were pretty much regular (29-31days). I also had no problem getting a positive reading on OPK's or HPT's.
Hope this helps!
