Table Food Question..
I don't know what to do. Maybe you ladies can offer me some advice. DS will be 15 months tomorrow() and I'm having trouble getting him to eat table foods. I've been offering it to him for months. He loves pancakes, waffles, bagel, rice krispies, cheerios, french toast, yogurt...All breakfast foods. Lunch he's happy with yogurt, maybe grilled cheese. Dinner is a nightmare. I try not to get frusturated or upset. I'll put food on his tray and wait for him to pick it up..He does and bam gets thrown on the floor. I literally wait at least 30 minutes to see if he will eat. Then I offer a stage 3 jar and he'll eat 3/4 of it and be done.
What do you think this could be? A texture issue? Teething? I don't want to even offer the jar anymore, but, I'm afraid he's not getting enough.
Any advice from BTDT mom's would be GREAT and I do appreciate it! TIA!!!

Re: Table Food Question..
It sounds like he is eating a lot during the day.
From what I read (and I read every baby/toddler book out there) DS will eat what he needs to eat..so if he is refusing dinner...maybe he is not full?
whar are his sippy cups/bottles like?

Re: Table Food Question..
DD was never a picky eater, but sometimes when she throws food on the floor. I found that if I put the same food on a little fork for her..she will eat it (rather than pick it up). Not sure if it's because of the fork, because it tastes exactly the same!

Re: Table Food Question..
I have a similar problem. Lily recently stopped eating most table food. All she wants is the jarred food. I think her problem was teething related. She had 4 molars popping through at once. I stopped trying "food" and just give her the jars every night. I was so frustrated wasting time & energy on real food. I'm gonna try table food again later this week. Good luck. I wish I had some advice for you.

Re: Table Food Question..
If he is eating stage 3 jar foods (I assume it's the jar with chunks of veggies or meats) then he probably doesn't have a texture issue. My son has a texture issue, and have been told by a feeding specialist that those stage three chunky jarred foods are the worst things for a child with texture issues.
From what I read, sounds like your DS is doing fine, and in time will like even more foods (my DS didn't start ANY table food until 18 months).
If you are still very uneasy, talk to your pediatrician about getting an evaluation. Hang in there

Re: Table Food Question..
Thank You so much ladies. DS does well with the stage 3 foods. Never an issue. If I offer him a chicken nugget, pasta, or even sometimes a piece of fruit, it's on the floor.
We do have an appt. this weekend and I am going to bring it up there as well. TY again.

Re: Table Food Question..
The best advice that I can give is to just keep offering the offending foods. He will eventually eat them...
Another idea is to maybe not offer him quite so much of the foods. (Im saying this without really knowing how much you are giving him)..but sometimes too much on the tray is overwhelming..maybe just put a couple of bites on the tray and see what happens.

That is what I do..I don't give all the foods I listed at the same time. I give him a couple pieces. Like I said earlier, he loves breakfast foods, but dinner, it's on the floor.

Re: Table Food Question..
Do you try to feed it to him? Maybe to get him used to it?

That is so true..I have learned that you just have to keep at it and keep offering the offending item. Eventually they will try it.
Dawn...
Im cracking up over here b/c I just keep picturing him, with that impish smile of his, dropping the food on the floor....
Do you feed him at the same time every day??? Maybe hold dinner off by 1/2 an hour and see what happens.
