Tacky or Not?

We are not planning on having a baby shower (religious, superstitious reasons), but we did register so just in case people want to buy us a gift before or after the baby is born, they can purchase something we want/need.

NOW is it tacky to slip something in with the birth announcements that we are registered at BRU?

Most people are going to buy for you regardless since you didn't have a shower. I don't think it necessarily tacky but it is "hinting" at a gift.....hmmm maybe you shouldn't then. Tough question What about having a welcome baby shower after the baby arrives???

I wouldn't. I'd let people ask your parents if you are registered anywhere or if you need anything specific. It looks like an ask for gifts, IMO.

i wouldn't do it, but i am anti-registry in general (sister forced me to have one for my bridal shower, and i didn't have one for my wedding).

i think these types of things are best done by word of mouth. i personally always ask if and where someone is registered...

I personally wouldn't attach it to the birth announcement.

To me, its almost like your asking for something to be bought - now if it were a bridal shower invitation -that would be different - but JMO.

I know that most people who want to buy you something will either ask you or a family member or do a search for you online to see if you have a registry.

I think so. I don't like it when the parents (or bride/groom) send out registry announcements. Its one thing for a friend or family member to send them out, but IMO its tacky for the people who would be receiving the gifts to send it out.

In this day and age, people can figure out where you are registered (in LI, most people check BRU or Buy Buy Baby). They can always ask.

I agree. People can always go online and find your registry if they're looking.

I wouldn't attach anything like that to the announcements. People will look online themselves or ask your family. To insert a registry card is kind of like asking for gifts.

Re: Tacky or Not?

I'm not preggo but in general, I do find this sort of tacky. We got an engagement announcement, with no invitation anywhere, and they included those registry cards. I was appalled. And, honestly, I refused to send the couple anything for their engagement.

JMO.

Re: Tacky or Not?

I'd go with word of mouth....it works really well. As the other ladies have posted, people will buy you things regardless of a registry or a shower. Keep tags on just in case!

Re: Tacky or Not?

I agree, that you shouldn't include the card with the birth announcement, but the idea of having a "new baby shower", planned by somebody else after the baby is here isn't bad.

Re: Tacky or Not?

IMO, yes. Invites should never include registery info. I know it is very common practice for baby/bridal showers but real etiquette states not to do it. For ANY announcement I think it is tacky. People will ask around or just check online. If you are going to have a Christening or other religious ceremony after the baby is born then I would not have a "shower" after the fact. JMO.

I think that word of mouth if the best way to go. So let those closest to you do the talking.

I agree. I'd let close family or friends spread the word. And I think people will probably ask.

I wouldn't in a birth announcement. Can you have a shower after the baby is born? Lots of people do that.

Re: Tacky or Not?

I think most people know to look for you on BRU and BBB.....my Jewish girlfriend had twins, so we got them gifts for the bris, and they didn't tell anyone they were registered but we all figured it out.

This is what we might do, i really really dislike showers though, putting superstition and culture aside. We might just have something invite close friends and family up here to CT on a set day so they can see the baby that really has nothing to do with gifts.

Re: Tacky or Not?

I wouldnt do that. I'd mention it to a few close family members and hopefully word will get around. If I knew someone didnt have a shower, I would definitely inquire as to what they might need. Hopefully alot of people will do so as well.
