Take out
Those of you who order take out from local restaurants are you finding its very very hard to get through to place orders on the weekends now? Like more so then when this first started?
I called 2 of our go to local places last night. The first was so busy the 3 phone lines (their normal number and 2 extra numbers they established to handle take out orders) were not even busy, they were going straight to a message saying we are assisting others, please keep trying. You couldn't even stay on hold, it just disconnected. This was at 6 pm, which is early for us to order normally but I had heard they were quoting 2 hour waits last weekend so I tried to call early for us. I tried them for 30 minutes. I finally asked on their Facebook page if they were open and they said yes, just extremely busy and to keep trying.
In the meanwhile I was dialing another place and it was a busy signal, then ringing with no pickup. After 15 minutes they picked up and I ordered from there.
I'm thrilled that these local places are so busy and doing well during this disaster.
I just remember when we first shut down it was a lot easier to get through and order. Places seems way busier now. Is it that the people who were scared to get takeout in the beginning are saying eff it, this is dragging on too long, I'll take the chance?

Take out
I see on our local town FB page and even on some of the restaurant pages that people should just keep trying because they are open. I went to pick up iatlian last night and there was a chinese restaurant open and there must have been 10 people all waiting outside for their food.
I think people are just tired of cooking and doing all those dishes everyday.

Omg i am dying for Chinese food! All the places near me were closed BEFORE the official shutdown. And they are all strictly take out so they could remain open. It's weird. When they decide to open I'll be on that line! Lol

Take out
I know one Italian restaurant where the phone calls were answered at a home- or not at the location and they put it through the computer system. I guess to avoid more people being together. - So there was just one phone line for what used to be a busy restaurant Also they probably are working with a lot less staff. I am sure restaurateurs are figuring out staffing and demand as they go along.

Yeah I thought of that too. Probably less cooks too so they get overwhelmed fast. It just makes me so happy to see these places busy right now.

Re: Take out
Most of the places we have been good. Our favorite sushi placed opened up and was only taking online or from the app orders. I think they were under staffed. I placed my order at 4:30, and was ready at 6. My husband went to go pick it up, and there was one guy running around the parking lot. He said there were so many cars there. I guess they didnt anticipate it being so busy. But it was so good and worth the wait.

Take out
I saw some posts from local restaurants saying to call earlier in the day to place your pickup order for a certain time. They are extremely overwhelmed during normal dinner hours; just like if you were to go in and have to wait for a table back in the good ‘ol days.

Fat Boy burrito was over a 2 hour wait last night. Then they got my order wrong. Still worth it. I shoveled down every bite of that burrito and it was perfection.

Re: Take out
From my restaurant owner friends it’s not that they are busier then Ever, it’s that they can only operate with less staff than usual so it just takes a while to get things done.
We’ve only ordered out once since this and luckily got through quick. We chose to order before “the rush” and I think that helped a lot.

Yes, I was one of these people lol!
I was super-scared to order take-out in the beginning, but I caved and ordered twice this past week. So I'll admit I'm still scared to eat anything as delivered, meaning I need to heat up whatever I order to kill any virus that may be on there (yes, I'm still crazy). So I ordered at around 2:00 and it was no problem...I just heated up my food at dinnertime.

Yeah I guess if you are going to reheat anyway that's a great idea- order in the afternoon and no wait!

Re: Take out
We either do delivery or pick up, from restaurants to fast food and no real long wait. Guess it depends on the time and day though.

Re: Take out
We do Uber Eats, but we've been noticing fewer restaurants are available as the weeks have gone on. I can only find a place delivering sushi once in awhile. We've tried Seamless/Grub Hub, but their estimated delivery times have been way off (like over an hour off), so I don't think we'll use them anymore, at least not for now.

Re: Take out
We tried to order Papa John's last night because the local pizza place was either closed or overrun and the website had me on hold So, we had leftovers.
Hibachi near me opened for take out this week and the wait for food was hours. Chick Fil A line is always over an hour long. People are sick of cooking!

Take out
We have been getting breakfast to go on weekend mornings- either from the diner or the bagel place. Order in takeout for dinner twice a week. We have done Italian, Thai, Greek, burgers from a local pub, and sushi. And, yes, it is getting harder and harder to place an order. Also, I was out earlier and I passed the Starbucks drive thru. There were about 35 cars, no exaggeration. People are definitely letting a little go as this drags on for longer. Our favorite Greek place said at the end of March they were averaging only 15 orders a night. Now they have over 50.

Re: Take out
Before this started I was cooking dinner to be healthier and save money. But after a month of cooking lunch and dinner, washing dishes every 5 seconds, I said screw being healthy and cooking this week.
We’ve had McD’s, pizza, diner, Mexican and tonight lobster rolls. It’s so bad but I’m done. I’m like fuk it, I’ll just be fat lol.
Uber eats was taking longer this week to go through on some stuff. And I know my cousin in Queens was experiencing delays to get orders in as well.

Re: Take out
We're ordering takeout a lot more to try and help the local restaurants. Especially the ones where we went to before the virus. So far, we haven't had an issue ordering.
