Taking a 3 month old to the pool
So I am getting a float with a canopy over it but is that enough to keep DS out of the sun in the pool. I really want to start taking him next week and I know we should not put sunscreen on them this young. Any advice? Thanks.

I would talk to your ped about the sunscreen - b.c even if you get a canopy the water reflects the sun rays and he could still get burned.

ITA about talking to the ped...my sil used sunscreen on her boys when they were infants as per peds advice. They were born in July and ped said why take a chance with a burn!

I agree with the other posters. While they say not to put sunscreen on until 6 mths your little one could get a really bad burn in the pool with no sunscreen. Do you have to take him in the pool? Could he be in the shade near you where you could still see him?

Re: Taking a 3 month old to the pool
We only used the pool in the late afternoon when the sun was behind the house or in the early evening on warm nights...my pediatrician did not want me to put sunscreen on her before 6 months so we just kept her out of the sun

My ped also said no sunscreen and shade only until 6 months. She also said no pool/chlorine

Yeah, that's nuts. We had DS in the pool at 10 weeks old and wearing sunscreen is WAY better than not wearing it.
We've always used Waterbabies SPF 50 and yesterday used Aveeno SPF 55 and DS is nice and alabaster.

Re: Taking a 3 month old to the pool
I think the float is not good for a 3 months old. I taught swimming for 15 years and I'd never use a float on any kid younger than 6 months. They just need to be held up until then. Even DS (at 9 months) was sinking a bit in his float yesterday, but he can sit and stand upright out of the pool. A 3 month old can't handle that.
As for pool/chlorine, talk with your dr. Typically kids can go in the pool at 2 months (indoor), but that's those that have no skin issues. And sunscreen is a must have with the rays bouncing off the water, but again, talk to your dr for wanting to use it that young.
