Taking a month break and starting IVF next month
and I have a few questions. We have a consult with the doctor on 4/10 but I'm curious to know.
1. Do you have to take BCP before doing IVF? I have a very regular schedule...didn't know if that mattered or not.
2. About how long from start to finish does a cycle of IVF last?
Thanks guys...I nervous and excited at the same time.

I am not an expert by any means. But heres my take:
You do not have to take BCP as long as your cycle coincides with the time they are cycling. They try to get everyone on the same cycle so its easier for them. I have also read that BCP's can suppress you if you tend to O early..not sure if thats true. I did not take BCP just started Gonal and menopur on CD 3 after sono and bloodwork.
The length differs for everyone depending on your situation. I have high fsh so I am on the antagonist protocol where I will take Ganirelix in the middle of the cycle. My nurse told us she thinks we'll stim for about 9 days then add the 3-5 days between retireval and transfer, pretty close to a natural cycle.

Re: Taking a month break and starting IVF next month
Not sure about the cycling thing, but I was put on BCP's to basically calm my system down. They said it was the calm before the storm. I had even taken a month off before (our choice to take a break and go away) and I am totally regular. So, it had nothing to do with that. But I had been on 3 IUI's with gonal-f and it might be due to that too. It gave me cysts following each month. so, maybe they wanted to make sure there was nothing. And when we started I was totally clear of cycsts. Though for some reason this month my FSH was really high (but that has happened twice before for me and I am a bit older).
I'm still in my IVF cycle. I'm waiting to get the green light for the trigger shot. They keep telling me it's that day and it ends up going the next.
So, far I have done Lupron (to suppress) for about 8 days and stimming with Gonal-f and menopur for 7 days. I am probably done tomorrow with ER Saturday. I believe that this is pretty short and not usual.

Re: Taking a month break and starting IVF next month
because I have pcos and very irregular cycles, I was given the choice of BCPs or when we started the cycle to go on Provera to bring AF on. I chose the BCPs because I felt they were the lesser of two evils. From start to finish, my IVF cycle (not including my 2WW) was just shy of 4 weeks. I started Lupron on 2/19, then started stimming on 2/29. Retrieval was 3/13 and I had a 3 day transfer on 3/16
