Re: Taking the baby out
As soon as we got home from the hospital. We asked that before anyone held him to use the antibacterial gel. No one seemed to mind

Re: Taking the baby out
i took her out to stores at 10 days old and had people over since day one of being home.
You just have to use your common sense, dont let a million people hold her and touch her,. The ones that do make sure they wash their hands. My dr said asap take them out in the fresh air. i know many drs that disagree and many who agree. Its also up to you as well.

Re: Taking the baby out
for this question you are going to get a lot of mixed responses.
in the end its going to be when you feel comfortable.
i had DD out the first day home from the hospital and around family. My family had to wash their hands and stuff and she is 100% fine. Knock on wood, she has actually never been sick.

I cannot imagine not going to a store for 2 months. I would never have groceries, etc.!
I took DD out to Target after about a week. No one was allowed to touch her (obviously). People that come over always have to wash their hands. I make sure I wash my hands or use antibacterial wipes after handling the shopping cart, etc.

Re: Taking the baby out
I've had family over since DS came home from the hospital. I had SMIL and my little in laws wash their hands with anti bacterial soap before they held him.
My SIL was supposed to come visit this past Saturday, but bailed b/c she was sick, which I appreciated.
I have been taking Christopher out for little errands and stuff. We are moving at the end of this month, there is no way I can sit home and do nothing with him. I wish I could, but I can't.

Re: Taking the baby out
I just asked almost the same question...I didnt see your post.
I have been taking DS out since around 3 weeks to stores during "quiet", non-crowded times. Now at 5 weeks I take him virtually everywhere with me even the mall. Only place I dont take him is the supermarket. I have had people coming over since day 1. They have to make sure their hands are clean and of course if anyone is sick they can't come.
You are going to get a lot of mixed opinions on this one. I posted in my last post it doesnt make sense not to take the baby out b/c even if I go to the mall and leave DC home, I can still catch a germ and pass it to him later on Also, some kids are in day care by 6 weeks and those places are filled with kids germs. I think it is good to get him out a little at a time and get him exposed, especially now that the weather is nice. But this is just my opinion.
Oh, another thing that I dont understand is some dr's say not to take babies out, yet babies are born in hospitals and some stay there longer than a day or two and hospitals are filled with people and germs.

Re: Taking the baby out
I had 9 family members in my room within an hour of baby being born and all of them held Gianna. And I had family with me for the 1st two weeks coming in and out.
Within 1 week of her birth we were out in stores and for walks, her 1st mall trip was at 3 weeks.
I don't believe in keeping baby inside and away, neither does my ped.

Re: Taking the baby out
My son was born in November and my doctor said no going to stores until he was 6 weeks old. Yeah right, that lasted about 10 days. I just used my judgement. I would go out earlier in the day, either carrying DS in a sling or draping a receiving blanket over his car seat if I used the snap and go. I kept my trips short, and never let anyone near him but I had to get out -- I was going crazy.

I remember taking my dd out at 5 days old. We went to Babies R Us and church for a baptism meeting. We took her out to a restaurant at 2 weeks.

Re: Taking the baby out
I didn't take my kids into public places until 4 weeks. Family came over to the house right away (if they were healthy!!) and I made sure they washed their hands.
