Taking the train to the airport...
Has anyone done this?
How did it work out for you?
Vin and I are thinking about taking the LIRR to Queens and then taking the tram from there to the airport (JFK). We heard about this and we were hoping it would be easier than having someone drive us.
Yay or nay??

its totally easy especially if youre familiar with LIRR. a little time consuming and a pain if you have a lot of luggage but its easy.

Oh good. Well, we have one bag each (a little roller) and that is IT - we packed REAL light so that we do not have to check our baggage. Also, we figure with traffic and stuff it'll be easier this way.
What stop do you get off at? Jamaica? It is funny b/c we are actually flying to Jamaica - the island lol.
Then, I'm assuming there are signs at the station of where to go to get to the tram?

Re: Taking the train to the airport...
it doesn't make sense for us- we are on the port washington line- so we would have to drive to Jamacia
I just booked a spot at the valet lot at JFK
it's alittle more then a car service (for me) but it will be less annoying when we land on sunday night (the worst night to try to get a cab or car service of the year in my experince)
it's $100 for 5 days of parking

Re: Taking the train to the airport...
We did it- it was really easy.
BUT- make sure you give yourself plenty of time.
We were going on a pretty short flight (to Charlotte), so we took the train that would get us to the airport about an hour and fifteen minnutes early (we weren't checking any luggage either).
Well, the train was late coming in. Then there was a problem with the doors so they had to stop and manually close all the doors at each stop.
Thank goodness our flight was delayed (I never thought I'd say that!!)

Re: Taking the train to the airport...
DH won't do this b/c our flights home usually come in late or after dark, and on a weekend, when the trains run less frequently, and DH says the station isn't the safest place after dark, especially when you might have to wait more then 10 or 15 mins for the next train out.

Get off at Jamaica, go upstairs, and then follow the signs for the Air Train. VERY easy.
Have a great trip!

Re: Taking the train to the airport...
Yay - DH and I do it all the time - SO easy. You just get off @ Jamiaca and walk over to ther 'air train' which takes you directly to your terminal @ JFK -
ETA - Jamiacs station is NOT as 'bad' as people make it out to be ........I wouldn't go wandering the streets at 2AM over there, but to just wait for the train is not a big deal .
