Talk to me about a 5dt - UPDATE
We had 11 retrieved and 8 fertilized. They just called me and said no transfer today (3 days) and that we are doing a 5dt instead. But the girl I spoke to couldn't tell me anything about the embryos and I'm nervous. Is the fact that it's 5dt a good sign?
5/6 - All 8 embryos made it to day 5. We transferred 1 blast that was almost hatching and 1 blast that hatched already. Dr seemed very happy so far and the transfer went smoothly. They are watching the other 6 and they think a few of them will make it to freeze which sounds promising. Beta is 5/19 which feel like an eternity away. I thought with a 5dt you could test earlier?

Yes it means that are progressing and look good on day three. A lot can happen between day three and five but in day 5 they hope for blastocysts. Which RE do you see? I would ask to speak to the embryologist so they can tell you more about your embryos.

Like the PP said, a 5dt means that the embryos are looking good on day 3. A lot can happen between day 3 and day 5 and some embryos that look great on day 3 slow down or arrest before day 5.
My RE, RMA, only does 5dt. They don't even check them on day 3.

That's not true. They do plenty of 3dt and definitely check them then.

That's not true. They do plenty of 3dt and definitely check them then.
They don't do 3dt anymore - at least that's what all the paperwork I got said. I am sure they check them to see their progress, but they really try to disturb them as little as possible. They refused to give any updates on day 3.

I'm still waiting for a nurse to call me back. It's nearly impossible to get in touch with anyone on a Sunday and they do procedures in the morning. I just have to keep remembering that the embryologist is an expert and they are doing what they think is best for the outcome we want otherwise I'll drive myself crazy

This!
I was so nervous through the whole process. We did IVF once and it was successful. Our Dr. refuses to check on day 3 saying he doesn't want to disturb them so I was freaking out the whole time thinking what if they didn't make it past day 3? But every egg that fertilized made it through day 5. I had a blasto and early blasto put in and they resulted in my twin pregnancy now. The dr. let my other 5 eggs go to day 6 to see if any reached blasto status but they all seized. I also hear that if eggs make it though to day 5, they have a good change of leading to a pregnancy. Good luck

Thanks! They did give me a day 3 update when they called which they never gave me yesterday. Out of our 8 that fertilized 7 were graded at the highest grade the lab gives and one was only one cell and wasn't going to make it. I know lots can happen but it made me feel better. Transfer is tomorrow morning where they will tell me more as they don't disturb them on day 4.

Thanks! They did give me a day 3 update when they called which they never gave me yesterday. I was told they do not do 3dt anymore. I'm with them now and they only told me 5dt

That does seem like a late BETA. You can test 14 days past retrieval (because that would be equivalent to 14dpo).

We had 4 make it to freeze! Were there questions I should have asked about them? I was so excited with the 4 that I said "is that good?" and basically hung up on them! LOL

Good luck. My transfer was the day before yours, also 5dt and my test is scheduled for 5/19 as well. I also thought that was late.

Good luck to you too. Yeah I called today thinking the date was wrong and they told me that's the correct time frame. I'm too afraid to do any testing so the 19th it is.

I had RS of NY test me twice 8 days post 5 day transfers....they usually do it 9 days post transfer. You are waiting way longer. That's how they do it in Europe however...14 days after no matter what.
