Talk to me about evaporation lines - with pics
Took a test at 10DPO. After 3 minutes, nothing. Kept the test. Looked at it 12 hours later and there was a line that was pinkish.
Took another test that night. Nothing within 3 minutes and forgot to check again at the 10 minute mark. Came back after 30 minutes and there was a faint faint line. Kept that test too.
Tested at 11DPO. Within 10 minutes there was again a verrrrrrry faint line that was so faint I could not get a picture of it. I looked at the tests from 10DPO and the lines were now darker and definitely pink/purple, not grey.
Can those be evaporation lines even though they are pink/purple and NOT grey? I thought evaporation lines would show up but not be pink, just greyish.
I am actually not excited or thinking this is potentially a BFP. But I am curious to see if it's a possibility based on the results. Does anyone know about evaporation lines?
10DPO, picture taken after 3 hours
10DPO, picture taken after 12 hours (the lighting is bad, but the line is very pink/purple in color)
11DPO, picture taken at 10 minutes, you can't really see the fain faint line though

At about 2 minutes, nothing. Its like watching water boil so I walked out and came back at the 10 minute mark.

you really should not go by what a test says if its after the alotted time (usually 10 minutes). I have heard of tests that give a pinkish line later on, but these are not real positives. a really great site with lots of info on all of this is peeonastick.com. it taught me a lot about hpt's and opk's too!

Thank you! I just went on to that site and I saw this there but still confused since it says that evaporation lines are grey but then says that if you see any color after 10 minutes its not valid.
All tests are prone to evaporation lines-- a gray, colorless, "ghostlike" line, or a "dent" in the test in the place where a positive line would be.
All tests have two antibody strips in the test window. One of these lines will always turn pink (the control line) when exposed to moisture. The other line will turn pink only if exposed to moisture with hCG (pregnancy hormone.) These antibody strips are not invisible. They are difficult to see, but they're there. When exposed to moisture, the "results" line becomes easier to see (because the moisture causes the light to reflect differently.) When you scrutinize the test, therefore, you will always see "something" there. Alas, it doesn't count unless it is obviously pink (or blue, obviously, if using a test with blue dye.) If you can't tell what color it is or it's too faint, assume it is negative.
Also, all tests have a strict time limit of 10 minutes. If ANY line of ANY color develops after 10 minutes (defined as "9 minutes, 60 seconds") you must assume it is negative.

12DPO is a good marker - I would use a FRER or digital (actually get both a pee in a cup so you can use your sample on both in case the digital doesn't come up this early )

Re: Talk to me about evaporation lines - with pics
The last one would seem valid to me, since it was checked within the 10 minutes. I can definitely see a line! I would go buy a digital to be sure, but it looks pretty good!

Re: Talk to me about evaporation lines - with pics
I am going to throw up. I can't wait to take another test to see. I now feel nervously excited, but afraid to get too excited since I do not want to be disappointed.

I agree digital all the way. If you can't wait buy a two pack. Drink some water, and hold your pee for 4-5 hours or as long as you can bear. Then test. If nothing test again in the morning w/ FMU.

I would take a digital tomorrow but that last one seems valid to me.
ITA - the ones where time elapsed I wouldn't count but the last one w/ the faint line that came within the time you're supposed to look is one I would believe in.
I was taking a test every day and on the 3rd day (which was 5 days before my missed period) I saw the FAINTEST line EVER and the next day I did a digital and it was positive along with another reg test which then showed a bit darker line.
