Talk to me about mucous plugs.... (obviously a TMI post!) *UPDATE

Totally TMI topic, but can you tell me about mucous plugs?

Do they have to have blood?
Does it have to all come out at once?

I think I might be losing mine. I saw a little something on the toilet paper last night, but I kind of just dismissed it. Then today after I peed, there was something on the toilet paper - it was clear, and kind of looked like a small string of snot (sorry for the TMI!) I had to wipe like 4 times and every time there was a bit more. Could that have been part of my plug??

It definitely wasn't brown and didn't have any blood...

Well this morning, I had like 3 more huge globs of mucous with a brownish tinge.... so that's it for sure, right?? Is that the "bloody show?" or does that have to be bright red blood?

I have heard that it does NOT have to have blood and most descriptions say it looks like snot, so I'd say that's your mucous plug going!!!

I totally can't wait to see if you go first or my BFF.

before i went into labor my mucus plug was blood & pieces of I'm assuming my cervix, never just "the string of snot" haha.....seems like this may be the start

That happened to me on Thursday. I wasnt sure if it was or not bc there was no blood. Since then it hasnt happened again so Im still not sure if thats what it was or not

that is it - yes. it can come out in pieces over time or it can all come out in one gross thing...

one thing though - it does regenerate....

Anatomically, there are two openings within the cervix. The internal os is part of the lower uterine segment and this portion begins to stretch and thin (efface) as gestation advances. Any effacement or dilation of the internal or external os may cause discharge or the loss of the mucous plug. This barrier of cervical mucous will "regenerate" to some extent and this discharge may stop soon only to restart with intercourse or activity or another cervical check.

Mine was never bloody...It was like snot starting early morning the day my water broke.

doesn't always have blood. mine looked like egg whites. i saw it after i flushed and mentioned it to my dr. a day or two later. he said that was probably it cause he didn't feel the plug anymore

definitely sounds like that's it. i went into labor about 2.5 days after i lost mine.
