talk to me about smaller SUVs... it's official, i'm in the market for a new-to-me car
i've been approved for a car loan! yay!
tonight, i go and sign all sorts of documents and get the ball rolling.
now, it's time to SHOP.
i have NEVER bought a car this way. all my cars have always been old, used cluckers.
i think i'm going to go with a smaller suv.
although my heart sings when i think about the GMC Acadia... but in all honesty, it's too much car for me.
talk to me about your cars!!

We're on our second Honda CR-V and have no complaints. We had the last one for 12 years and when we started looking we were able to get a decent trade-in value for it to put on the new one.

Take a look at the new Buick Encore (not to be confused with the Enclave) and test drive. You won't be disappointed! My mom just leased one and she loves it! She said its the perfect size.

im curious about this too....anyone care to share their gas millage with their SUV? that is Dhs biggest concern with us getting one...
i have a 2005 explorer and get 15mpg

For smaller SUV's I have had both the Toyota Rav-4 and the Honda CR-V.
I much preferred the CR-V. The Rav-4 didn't have anywhere near the pick-up and performance that the Honda did. It was reliable and nice, don't get me wrong, but the CR-V was a joy to drive.
It was also very good in the snow and I loved the brakes - sounds weird - but they actually have really amazing brakes on Honda's and I like them lol.
Friends and SIL have the Rogue - I have not driven that myself, but it seems very nice. It is reasonably priced and you can get A TON of features in Nissan - like nice higher-end amenities without paying major money either. HTH!

OMG ALL the new Buicks are gorgeous!
I never thought I'd want a Buick but they have really come a LONG way since the days of being an old man car!

We got the Mercedes GLK350 in February and we really love it. We traded in a 2004 Ford Escape, which I actually really liked (but it was time to let it go). This is smaller than the Ford and drives more like a car. It also gets better gas mileage. It is a little pricey but we feel we got a really good deal on the lease (I know you said you want to buy and we looked into that too and the deals were not as good for this car). My sister has the Nissan Rogue and it is also a great small SUV (I think it is a little bigger than the GLK).

I know, right?  I'm on my second Enclave now, having just recently upgraded to a 2013. Never thought I'd own a Buick before I was 65 but I do love it!

Just returned my Mazda CX9 lease. Had no issues with it and it was decent on gas.
I just leased a new Cherokee.
I'm still getting used to it so I will let you know my opinion in a few more weeks.

With my CX9 I would be able to get away with filling up once a week and did at least one day in the field and drove back and forth from Seaford to Babylon twice a day.
It cost around $65 on average to fill up.
So far my Cherokee seems to be similar and I commute back and forth to Manhasset from Western Suffolk.
Both seem more like car bases/crossovers to me though. I think you start running into issues with larger truck bases.
I heard the Pilot is horrible on gas.
I also think older models are less fuel efficient.
My friend has a Jeep Cherokee that is around 10 years old and he told me he fills up every 3-4 days and he pretty much just drives locally.
I have heard the same from people I work with who have older Jeeps----they said you can literally watch the gas needle going down as you drive it.

I have the new 2013 Equinox. Gas mileage is awesome. Costs about 60 bucks to fill up from empty. A tank typically lasts me about 2 weeks. The car is super roomy and I love driving it. Its like the Acadia but smaller. More like the Terrain. Its actually the same car. You should look at the Terrain if you liked the Acadia!

We got a 2013 Ford Escape. We love it. Its nice and roomy. The mileage is great. We got it almost 2 weeks ago and haven't gotten to the 1/2 point with gas yet. And DH went to Jersey once and we've been driving mostly to local places.

Happy with my Ford Edge :) not to big..not too small. More room.inside then it looks & im a tall person. Its.peppy sharp & drives/feels like a car & not a bus.

with my venza i fill up about 3 times a month...$55 each and its about 19 mpg. i do mostly street driving.

Subaru Forester! They just changed the body style again for the 2014 model. It's amazing!! Especially in the snow I an easily drive through 18 inches. Also number 1 safety rating! Please test drive one!!!!

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and I absolutely love it!!!! It drives so good, has a lot of space, and it feel really safe (it has great safety ratings)

I'm going to look into this when my Kia Sorento lease is up (which I was happy with but want a less expensive smaller SUV).
