Talk to me about switching from infant seat to convertible seats

We have two brand new Britax Marathons waiting to be installed but we are really dreading it. Now keeping in mind I have two-is it a big time PITA going out? Do your kids stay asleep if they are sleeping in the car seat? My kids are still below the weight, height limit for the infant seat but their feet are hanging out and my DH scraped D's feet on the snap n go so I am ready to get rid of them..

I'd like to know this too, DD is sooo cramped in her car seat that the marathon is waiting to be installed...I've been practicing taking her out of the infant car seat and putting her in the stroller directly from the car and so far she wakes up but can fall back asleep after a few seconds!!Chat Icon

It will be an adjustment at first, but then you will be fine. I loved carrying DS in the infant carrier, it was easier. He also falls asleep in his Marathon, but will wake up when we get him out, unlike his carrier.

But- the big thing for me was seeing how much DS loved the new carseat!! You can see how more comfortable he is now. Your boys will love it!

i love my convertible seat and DS loves being in it too! we also have the marathon. DS never stayed asleep even in the infant carrier so that wasn't an issue for me.

i am DONE with the infant carrier, i hate putting DS in it and so does he. i think he feels more "free" in the marathon.

Neither does B. Once you take him out, he is up for good. We like not having to carry the heavy carseat anymore, but it makes life a little harder not being able to just carry them everywhere in it. It is more of a pain when running fast errands, you can't just take them out and clip them back in fast. You have to unbluckle, then buckle every time you get in and out of the car. But it all goes with the territory of them getting bigger. Otherwise, it does offer more room for them Chat Icon

I think Athan can sleep in anything and through anything. He has no problem staying asleep after we unsnap him and take him out of the convertible seat. I just keep "ssshhhh'ing" him while I take him out and pat his back as I cradle him to go inside and whisper to him. It does take getting used to but he was so uncomfortable in that infant carrier since he was chunky Chat Icon

We changed over the day they turned 6 months.

It is much easier for me bc I hated carrying the infant seats and I hated them taking up room in my apartment!

We switched at 7 months. DS never used to stay asleep once we took him out unless it was at night at bed time. Nowadays at 2, in the afternoons around nap time and always at night he stays mostly asleep as I take him in and he'll let me put him back to bed.

Re: Talk to me about switching from infant seat to convertible seats

I dreaded it too, initially... but in hindsite, each has its pros and cons...

con to the infant seat:
the babies are getting HEAVY, and it becomes harder and harder to lug around those infant seats....

con to the convertible:
yep, you have to wake-up your sleeping baby... but I noticed that in the evening, I can pick him up, walk across the parking lot, up 2 flights of stairs, unlock the door, and put him in the crib and he'll be back asleep in a couple min. best part: he's now in the CRIB not a carseat!!!

I can't imagine dealing with 2 infant seats at once... or carrying 2 babies... I give you tons of credit! Chat Icon

Re: Talk to me about switching from infant seat to convertible seats

I remember dreading the switch over but when my arms were hanging to the ground from carrying a growing baby plus a 15 lb carseat, I welcomed the change. Sometimes they would stay asleep, sometimes not.
