Tank-less hot water heater...
I want to get rid of our tank and get a tankless. Has anyone done this? If so, can you tell me who you used, and the approx cost? Feel free to FM. Thanks!

Re: Tank-less hot water heater...
We went tankless back in 2007. Worth it!! Love it! We went with a local plumbing business in our town, and they purchased the unit for us at cost and installed it (it was about $1500 for the unit and installation). We have an electric spark ignition one that runs on natural gas. We love all being able to shower with full hot water all the time. The only con I can think of is that in the morning, the shower can take a good minute to get the warm water coming since it heats on demand and is not readily waiting in a tank.

Re: Tank-less hot water heater...
We just did this during our home renovations.
We haven't used it yet but, it freed up a lot of room in our basement and is supposed to be more efficient. They promised us we wouldn't be disappointed.

Re: Tank-less hot water heater...
Just wanted to let you know of some of the issues I heard with the tankless heaters- these issues turned me awway from the idea.
-inconsistent water temps -calcium buildup in the heater - needs cleaning every few months -pricier than regular water heater

This has not been my experience at all- I have had one for the past three years and we have never had any of these issues.

Me either! Very, very happy and have no issues the past 4 years with ours.
I will say the unit itself IS probably pricier than one of those 40-50 gallon tank heaters that take up a lot of room. But in the long run, there is no pilot running all the time keeping water hot for us, and it is much more efficient, so there is money savings in the long run.
And since the water is heated on demand, sometimes first thing in the morning, the water may take a minute to warm up, but the water usage is minimal.
