Tap water & oil burner (2ques)
If we lose power, how will we know if the tap water is still ok to use?? Or will the water go off if the power goes??
Also, if we lose power, should I turn off my oil burner??

How do you get your water? The answer would depend on that.
(Don't know about the oil burner)

if you have city water and not a well then you shld still be able to use it.
I guess you can switch off the burner. We unplug most electrical things in home exept fridge which is on a generator.

I think if the water is bad (contaminated) they will shut the water supply and/or you will probably hear about it in the news.
I would NOT shut your oil burner off unless there is some immediate danger to it being on. I learned this the hard way. I shut mine once when we were going away. As soon as we got home and I turned it back on the carbon monoxide detector starting going off and I had a basement full of smoke. Turns out, we had a puff back. The man from the oil co. said to NEVER shut the burner off unless you have a reason too, like a fire or a leak.

If your basement floods you should turn the burner off

Re: Tap water & oil burner (2ques)
If there is a danger of your oil burner getting wet- like a flooded basement- then yes, turn it off.
If not- don't
HOwever to answer your question- if there is a power outage it doesn't matter- the burner will be off. No power.
For water- if you don't have a well, then your water will not turn off when the power does. You won't get HOT water- because the burner needs power to run and heat the water, as does the hot water heater. But you will get water.
I would think if it got contiminated somehow- they would shut it at the main

I would not drink water or use it until I hear it is ok from the TV or radio. We filled up all our pots so we can make plenty of pasta
